Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (3)
  1. $21,374 spent. THE AI IMAGING LAB ADVANCES THE APPLICATION OF COMPUTER VISION AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TO THE INTERPRETATION AND ANALYSIS OF MEDICAL IMAGES AND COMPLEX HEALTH DATA. THE LAB DEVELOPS INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS CAPABLE OF DETECTING SUBTLE PATHOLOGIES WITH PRECISION TO SUPPORT CLINICAL DECISION-MAKING AND ACCELERATE MEDICAL DISCOVERY. KEY RESEARCH AREAS INCLUDE MULTI-MODALITY AI THAT INTEGRATES DIVERSE DATA TYPES SUCH AS IMAGES, GENOMIC DATA, AND TEXT TO DEEPEN PATIENT UNDERSTANDING; LONGITUDINAL PREDICTION MODELS THAT ANALYZE DATA ACROSS A PATIENT'S FULL HEALTHCARE JOURNEY TO FORECAST DISEASE PROGRESSION AND TREATMENT RESPONSE; VASCULAR ATLAS DEVELOPMENT TO MAP THE BODY'S VASCULAR SYSTEM AND ENABLE EARLY DETECTION OF STRUCTURAL ABNORMALITIES; AND FEDERATED LEARNING FRAMEWORKS THAT ALLOW AI MODELS TO BE TRAINED ACROSS DISTRIBUTED INSTITUTIONAL DATASETS WITHOUT SHARING SENSITIVE PATIENT INFORMATION. THE LAB OPERATES IN ACADEMIC COLLABORATION WITH RESEARCHERS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA WITH EXPERTISE IN MRI, CT, ULTRASOUND, AND OPHTHALMOLOGICAL IMAGING AI.
  2. THE LARGE LANGUAGE MODEL (LLM) LAB ADVANCES THE NEXT GENERATION OF CLINICAL AI INTELLIGENCE BY FOCUSING ON TWO CORE RESEARCH AREAS: IMPROVING INFERENCE EFFICIENCY AND CONSTRUCTING MULTI-MODAL KNOWLEDGE GRAPHS FOR MEDICINE AND BIOLOGY. THE LAB DEVELOPS NEW ARCHITECTURES AND EVALUATION METRICS THAT REDUCE THE COMPUTATIONAL COST OF DEPLOYING LARGE LANGUAGE MODELS, ENABLING SECURE LOCAL MODEL DEPLOYMENT WITHOUT RELIANCE ON EXPENSIVE THIRD-PARTY INFRASTRUCTURE FOR PROCESSING SENSITIVE HEALTH DATA. IN PARALLEL, THE LAB BUILDS KNOWLEDGE GRAPHS THAT CONNECT MEDICAL LITERATURE, PATIENT RECORDS, AND DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING TO DELIVER REAL-TIME, CONTEXT-AWARE CLINICAL INSIGHTS. A FLAGSHIP PROJECT, ASK AITHENA, IS PART OF THE NATIONAL AI RESEARCH RESOURCE (NAIRR) PILOT PROGRAM A RETRIEVAL-AUGMENTED GENERATION MODEL PROVIDING AI ACCESS TO APPROXIMATELY 250 MILLION SCIENTIFIC AND MEDICAL TEXTS TO ACCELERATE BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH. BY PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES OF LLM DEVELOPMENT, THE LAB AIMS TO MAKE AI MORE ACCESSIBLE, SECURE, AND IMPACTFUL ACROSS THE HEALTHCARE ECOSYSTEM.
  3. THE POLUS CENTER FOR DATA RESEARCH (PCDR) ADVANCES BIOMEDICAL DISCOVERY BY DEVELOPING AND MAINTAINING OPEN-SOURCE, INTEROPERABLE, AND HIGH-PERFORMANCE DATA SYSTEMS FOR THE GLOBAL SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY. PCDR STEWARDS THE POLUS PLATFORM AN OPEN-SOURCE SYSTEM OPERATING ON CLOUD AND HIGH-PERFORMANCE COMPUTING INFRASTRUCTURE WHICH INTEGRATES ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, STATISTICAL METHODS, REPRODUCIBLE WORKFLOWS, AND INTERACTIVE DATA EXPLORATION TOOLS IN A UNIFIED ENVIRONMENT, ORIGINALLY DEVELOPED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH. THE CENTER PROVIDES SCALABLE DATA PROCESSING TOOLS AND PIPELINES BUILT ON OPEN STANDARDS, SUPPORTS THE DEVELOPMENT OF FILE SPECIFICATIONS AND WORKFLOW DEFINITION STANDARDS TO ENHANCE REPRODUCIBILITY AND INTEROPERABILITY, AND FOSTERS AN OPEN-SOURCE RESEARCH COMMUNITY. PCDR'S WORK SPANS CLINICAL AND MICROSCOPY IMAGE ANALYSIS, PHARMACOEPIDEMIOLOGY, CHEMINFORMATICS, MOLECULAR MODELING, AND MULTI-OMICS RESEARCH, WITH A FOCUS ON DATA QUALITY, HARMONIZATION, AND HYPOTHESIS-DRIVEN DISCOVERY ACROSS DISEASE AREAS INCLUDING CANCER AND INFECTIOUS DISEASE. THROUGH THESE EFFORTS, PCDR EMPOWERS BIOMEDICAL RESEARCHERS WORLDWIDE WITH THE INFRASTRUCTURE AND TECHNOLOGIES NEEDED TO ACCELERATE SCIENTIFIC ADVANCEMENT.
