About Veridonate
Veridonate helps people check a charity before they give. Emotion moves people to give. Evidence shows the gift will land. We bring the two together.
What we do
- Check. Look up any US charity and see whether it is registered, tax-exempt and in good standing, each result traced to a public record. How we verify.
- Rate. Where a charity has enough on record, we rate its financial health, its governance and how well its results are evidenced, by a published method. We do not reward low overhead. How we rate.
- Tell true stories. Real people helped by charities that pass our checks. Every story names its source, and a person approves it before it is published. Stories.
- Cause funds. Lists of charities and a split, both produced by published rules. How funds work.
Who runs it
Veridonate is run by a small, independent company, a for-profit technology company in the United States. It is not a charity, and it is not owned by, paid by or affiliated with any charity it lists. Veridonate never receives or holds a gift. Today the Give button takes you to the charity's own website, where you give to it directly. Later, one gift split across a cause fund will go through a partner public charity that issues the tax receipt and pays each charity its share.
How it is paid for
Checks, ratings, stories and the Give button are free, and today Veridonate earns nothing: no fee, no tip, no payment from any charity. When giving through a partner charity opens, the site will be paid for by an optional payment from donors who want to support it, kept separate from the gift, and later by memberships and services for companies. That is all.
What we will not do
- No advertising, and no charity can pay to be listed, rated higher, featured in a story or held in a fund.
- We never sell or rent donor details, and no charity can buy access to donors.
- No single unexplained trust score. Each rating is shown with the figures and the filing it came from.
- No invented stories, quotes or numbers, and no pressure tactics or false urgency.
- Artificial intelligence helps us read filings and draft stories. It never decides a rating, moves money or clears a sanctions match, and nothing it drafts is published until a person has checked it.
When we are wrong
Public records can be late or mistaken, and so can we. If you are connected with a charity and something on its page is wrong, use the "Work there?" link on its page. A person reads every message. A charity can ask to be removed from giving at any time, and a request from its own domain takes effect the same day.
