Financial health

We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (1)
  1. Frederick D. Suydam had been a successful New York City Insurance Brokerassociated with the firm of Murray, Vanderpoel and Baker, Inc. He was a tenth generation New Yorker descended from one of the original Dutch families that settled the City of New York, then known as Nieuw Amsterdam.During World War I, Mr. Suydam was a commissioned officer in the Field Artillery ofthe U.S. Army. In February 1943, he re-enlisted in the Army and attained the rank of Major in the Counter-Intelligence Corps. Here he developed a great respect for law enforcement, as well as a strong belief that professionals in this field did not receive appropriate recognition for efforts to improve cooperation among their peers. After his return to New York City, it became his custom to host a dinner once or twice a year to honor outstanding individuals in law enforcement in recognition of their efforts to build that cooperative spirit. Fred Suydam felt that these dinners had the beneficial effect of bringing professionals together on an intimate basis. He believed this both facilitated cooperation between law enforcement agencies and formed strong professional relationships.Following Mr. Suydams death in 1960 several of those who had attended thesedinners felt it appropriate to commemorate his good work by continuing these dinners in his honor.Since 1960, this Association has - with the assistance of past and present officers - continued the tradition of this dinner to identify that person active in the lawenforcement/intelligence field/private sector security firms who best exemplifies the spirit of service, integrity and dedication to the ideals supporting the work all do.Although Fred Suydam is no longer with us, the dynamic he created by this dinner, and the purpose it originally sought to serve are still the outright goal of this Association and this dinner.
