Impact evidence

Programs described in its return (2)
  1. $124,483 spent. The North Northeast Business Association (doing business as Soul District Business Association (SDBA) implemented our Navigator Program with a community-first approach focused on providing both high-touch, individualized support and impactful group-based services. Our team prioritized outreach to historically underserved entrepreneurs across Portlands N/NE neighborhoods, ensuring we were accessible, responsive, and culturally relevant. We provided 2,765 hours of one-on-one technical assistance to 82 unduplicated clients, with 49 receiving more than 10 hours of support. Services included help with business planning, access to capital, marketing strategies, licensing, and procurement navigation. In addition to direct TA, we hosted group workshops and peer learning cohorts that totaled 332.5 hours, engaging 73 unique business owners. We exceeded our goals by supporting 73 active businesses and helping launch 9 new ventures.
  2. $16,855 spent. Our program aimed to increase access, capacity, and representation in media production for Black and other BIPOC communities in Portland through culturally responsive, community-centered storytelling. We used technologyincluding digital editing tools, high-quality production equipment, and a mobile media studioto support: Hands-on media training for at least 30 Black/BIPOC participants, focused on digital storytelling, film production, and civic engagement; production and airing of 100 short films that elevate community voices and highlight social, economic, and health equity issues affecting our neighborhoods; broadcast of monthly 30-minute community film segments on Open Signal, showcasing participant work and amplifying underrepresented narratives; digital and mobile outreach tools that expand access to training and storytelling opportunities beyond a single locationespecially for those historically excluded from media production spaces. Ultimately, we sparked empowerment and opportunity by turning community members into storytellers, creators, and change agentswith the technology and training to match. With original films created by our internal team and interns, we advanced our goals of building media skills and centering Black voices.
