Financial health

We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (2)
  1. $14,257 spent. We offered forty-four programs in 2025, all free and open to the public, for a total expense cost of $14,257.40. Of those programs, three were author talks, eleven were affinity group meetings, twenty were book club meetings, and six were in-person events. Our new programs included two new themed book clubs and a monthly crafting group. Our most popular recurring book club is Sapphic Sci-Fi and Fantasy, with some meetings having up to thirty-five participants. During Pride month, we hosted a Chosen Family Reunion picnic which gathered forty-one community members. We partnered with Panethnic Pourovers for a tea tasting event, which had thirty-two attendees. In addition to our programs, we tabled at fifteen community events including Boston Book Festival, Wake Up the Earth Festival, and Boston Dyke March. When we table, we connect with future patrons and supporters while distributing information about the QT Library and the impact we hope to have upon opening. This includes sharing book recommendation lists, coloring pages and bookmarks, inviting newsletter sign-ups, and recruiting new volunteers. The connections made through tabling support our continued expansion and help us achieve our goal of being deeply integrated into the fabric of queer and trans life in Greater Boston. This year, we have continued to build up our programs to support our community members as they express themselves creatively, celebrate themselves and one another, and deepen their connections to our community and our planet. Our spaces embrace the participants for the fullness of their identities. We strive for open access, joyful, and validating experiences for all who interact with the QT Library. Our programming is a way for us to deepen that connection with our community around shared interests and resources.
  2. $39,716 spent. We continued to build our lending library, which will be free and accessible to the public, for a total expense cost of $39,715.99 for books, processing supplies, and storage space. In January 2025, we moved from an informal storage space to a small physical office and book processing space. In September 2025, after realizing that we'd quickly outgrown this small space, we moved to an even larger physical office and book processing space, where our now 3,500-collection is being processed and prepared for circulation by our highly-skilled team of Collections volunteers. We acquire books in a myriad of ways: from direct donations, from Bookshop.org wishlist purchases, and through direct purchasing. Our purchasing focuses on diversifying our collection by acquiring titles that are less likely to be donated, such as books in languages other than English, books in Braille, and large print editions. It's been incredible to see our growth from having only 400 books at the end of 2023 to where we are today. We are eager to secure a public-facing physical location so that the lending library can become active for the public to check out queer and trans books.
