Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Programs described in its return (4)
  1. $13,000 spent. Our Neighborhood Music Empowerment Project takes a systemic approach to uplifting K-12 youth through free creative space-making. This programming series responds directly to community needs, identified in partnership with community partners like the Millvale Community Library and community social worker Alyssa Peters, using music as a tool for community healing and youth voice. This program served roughly 50 students weekly between October 20th 2024 and December 31st 2024. Our programs are intentionally designed to welcome new students so that there is rolling enrollment at any time. This program was funded by a grant from the Grable Foundation to cover the 24-25 academic year. This program offered a series of developmentally accessible enrichment activities. One offering was The Millvale Children's Chorus, which served 20 students (kindergarten through 5th grade) each week during the timeline listed above. Students selected songs, learned to sing in harmony as a group, and performed in front of 100 people at a holiday event. Our Junior Rock Band class served 8 students weekly and provided instruction on drums, bass, guitar, keyboard, and ukulele. The class (ages kindergarten through 2nd grade) learned to play two songs as a group. Our Middle School rock band offered the same instrumentation listed in Junior Rock band but with more mature and complicated music selections, most of which centered around themes of mental health. This program served 5 students weekly. Also for this age group, we offered a middle school guitar club afterschool weekly at the Millvale Community Library, which served 8 students weekly.
  2. $1,000 spent. Taking place in Pittsburgh Housing Authority's Northview Heights Apartments, The Musician Scholars Program blended ukulele instruction, chorus, and beatmaking with social-emotional aligned lyric-writing activities for students in grades 3rd-5th through weekly after-school instruction. Each class also provided a full dinner to each student, for a total of 600 free meals. Despite experiencing a trauma of our site being burned down, our program persisted and we were able to continue our program through the year with no interruptions.
  3. Our private lesson program offers affordable, reduced, and free lessons to youth. We provided 52 students with private instruction on ukulele, piano, guitar, songwriting, and music production. Despite being our only paid program, 30% of students received either a partial or full scholarship to high quality lessons. 96% of students stayed enrolled for 9 months or more.
  4. $8,600 spent. We developed programs for students registered for special education services and medical complexities through partnerships with Pittsburgh Public Schools, Western PA School for Blind Children, and the borough of Etna.
