South Whidbey Schools Performing Arts Boosters
Public records show a registered, tax-exempt organization in good standing.
What it says it does
The South Whidbey Schools Performing Arts Boosters provides support to the local high school and middle school for the advancement and enhancement of the performing arts. The entity acts as a financial conduit for travel expenses, purchases of musical instruments, music supplies, guest instructors and event registration fees above the local school district's budget. The organization coordinates fund raising events, solicits community volunteers and assists in the communication and marketing in support of public performances and events. The organization also provides several scholarships on a competitive basis for students who are either interested in continuing their involvement in the performing arts or have strongly been engaged in the performing arts during their secondary education.

Financial health
We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance
This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Programs described in its return (1)
- $14,676 spent. The 2024/2025 school year was a year of transitioning toward the retirement of the long-time band and jazz band instructor. The high school jazz band participated on a more limited competitive basis, performing at the Clark College Jazz Festival where they once again took first place in their division, and they also performed at the non-competitive Pacific Lutheran Jazz Festival where they attended a master class from a professional musician. As usual, the Performing Arts Boosters covered entry fees and necessary travel expenses at 1/2 cost. The High School Jazz Band performed twice for the local community at the Whidbey Center for the Arts where both events were well received and attended. The second performance was a "send-off" for the retiring instructor. The Middle School concert band performed at Music in the Parks, a competitive event held at the Wild Waves Entertainment Park and returned home with a first-place trophy after bowling and eating pizza at Bowlero. The high school jazz band and concert band played an end of year concert for the Leavenworth business and tourist community. The final event of the year was a surprise retirement event open to the public where the jazz band played as well as a "mass band" of all students grade 5 through 12. Because of the limited travel schedule, fund balances have grown and the organization is well positioned to support music education where the school budget continues to be reduced. More than 100 students are directly impacted by the efforts of the South Whidbey Schools Performing Arts Boosters and the South Whidbey Island community greatly benefits through the musical performances from the talented youth. Two $500 scholarships were awarded for the 2024/2025 school year with an expectation for increasing individual award amounts in the future. With the passing of a school bond issue to renovate the schools facility, there is a hope that a renewed energy and focus can be brought to the choir and drama programs to enable the Performing Arts Boosters to expand its support to those programs while hoping to maintain and build upon the legacy of the band program.
