Financial health

We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Programs described in its return (3)
  1. $706 spent. From October 23-25, 2024, the National Black Postdoctoral Association (NBPA) was invited by Southwestern University to host its annual Leadership Symposium in Dallas, Texas. This in-person event brought together NBPA and Black Postdoctoral Association (BPA) leaders from across the country for a series of workshops focused on leadership development, team-building, strategic planning, mental health, and research advancement. The symposium featured networking opportunities, poster sessions, and group dining events to foster community and scholarly exchange. The event supported NBPA's mission to empower Black postdoctoral scholars through professional development and collaborative engage. Southwestern University coordinated all logistics and expenses on behalf of the symposium and NBPA's involvement was limited to arranging the speakers of the symposium.
  2. $631 spent. In 2024, we hosted the Research Showcase and Social Club, a series of seminars designed to highlight and support the research efforts of trainees. This program provided a platform for participants to present their work. The initiative offered unique visibility for attendees seeking collaborators or expertise in specific research areas, with invitations extended to selected participants to present. Each seminar included a prescreening process to ensure high-quality presentations, followed by personal story sharing, inspirational discussions, conflict resolution strategies, and tailored advice. Conducted via Zoom with free access provided by a partnering university, the program average attendance to each individual meeting was 20 attendees, fostering community, collaboration, and professional development.
  3. In 2024, the organization continued the Emergency Support Program (ESP) to provide direct support to individuals facing personal and work-related challenges. The program paired 8 trainees with 10 mentors for personalized guidance and support. Participants were recruited through targeted advertising on Twitter, and virtual training sessions were conducted to equip them with necessary skills and resources. Follow-up support was provided via phone to ensure ongoing mentorship and care. This initiative reflects the organization's commitment to addressing both professional and personal development needs in times of crisis.
