What it says it does

The I&C Empowerment Zone Inc is greatly involved in our community by dressing the youth for success thru our Prom Dress Fairy Project which provides prom dresses and accessories FREE to underserved young ladies; nourishing bodies thru Cheryl's Kitchen Table where we feed the community every Halloween (and volunteer packing and giving food boxes with other entities) and reacquainting our people with their culture through performance arts thru We Does Fete Masquerade Band where we keep the tradition of the Caribbean Cultural Clown alive by performing in parades, Mardi Gras and command performances along the east coast at schools and civic events. We also have 2 new programs We Love Books in which we have 7 little free libraries around Dekalb county at recreation centers, schools, parks and community health center that we fill with books weekly; and Our Jigsaw Puzzles which we collect and donate to schools and senior homes

Financial health

We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (5)
  1. $300 spent. This year, our Prom Dress Fairy Project, gave over 507 young ladies from 16 high schools in the Metro Atlanta area dresses, accessories and additional clothing 9industry samples) for Prom. Ladies also came from as far away as Alabama to participate. The Prom Dress Fairy Project held the FREE prom dress giveaway on March 7, in which ALL young ladies that attend receive a dress, make up, feminine hygiene products and lots of positive energy and a fun filled shopping spree for prom for FREE99. The highlight of the day this year was when a young lady who wore a size 28 got a dress and strutted down the runway.
  2. $75 spent. We Does Fete Masquerade Band traveled to Besemear Alabama (Alabama Caribbean Association sponsored Caribbean Carnival), Stone Mountain (Mardi Gras Parade) to perform and show the art of the Traditional Caribbean Clown. as well as our feathered costumes. The dances and moves date back to African Ceremonial and Roman Festivals, and were incorporated into modern day in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands and brought to the US Mainland by small groups, such as ours. I do believe we made the local paper and was also on the Fox 5 /n/ew segment.
  3. $100 spent. We Love Books is a campain that we started about 3 years ago that has grown exponentially. We give books to day care centers; fill community book boxes, little libraries and book exchange program boxes in the Metro Atlanta Area, however we saturate the Gwinnette and DeKalb area the most. We have given away over 6k books to date and currently sponsor 7 Free Little Libraries located in DeKalbCounty 3 Recreation centers, 2 parks, 1 community health center and 1 elementary school
  4. $25 spent. We implemented a new program - Jigsaw Puzzles Mania. We created and maintain a puzzle wall/checkout system at the Redan Trotti Library which includes monthly puzzle swaps. Additionally we have supplied 5 elementary schools, 4 high school s and 3 Senior Programs with jigsaw puzzles (given to the media center or reception area) as we feel puzzles foster critical thinking, team play and problem solving techniques
  5. $75 spent. We roiled out our Life 101 Series where we help with resume writing, job hunting, application filing and our favorite Etiqutte classes. These are offered to anyone that wishes to learn and we have had classes at the local Rec Center as well as other community programs that have asked us to give a class. It is not limited to the youth, we serve everybody
