Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (2)
  1. $50,412 spent. COMMUNITY OF ARTISTS: Earth Creative (EC) grew its community of artists to 103. These brilliant artists all have a focus on climate change and climate justice and EC provides these individuals with a platform to present their work, share ideas, and seek support for new projects. The growth of this community of artists is on-going with an average of three artists added each month. Launched a new series of EC-produced videos featuring EC artists as well as EC Scientists. Earth Creative presented a new show entitled "Artists Unite for the Planet" at the Perry and Carlson Gallery in Mt Vernon, WA. 45 Earth Creative Artists were featured for the entire month of May, attracting nearly 12,000 visitors. Terra Nostra, the EC flagship documentary production was presented at the St. Louis Central Public Library in partnership with the organization "Artists for Climate Awareness" From August 1 to November 1, EC was invited to feature some of its artists at the Washington Athletic Club in Seattle. The climate-focused exhibit was located in the main lobby and central grand staircase and provided EC with continuous exposure for three months in the heart of the city.
  2. $13,465 spent. EDUCATION & ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE: Earth Creative's Science & Education focus develops content into artistic and science-based educational resources for formal and informal education for students of all ages. It develops a network of participating schools and teachers and organizes future in-person and virtual/remote school visits by artists and scientists. We launched the new Student Climate Project as our most ambitious educational endeavor to date. Students, singly or in groups, will research an area of interest through the lens of climate change and propose a project which results in some sort of shareable product- a research paper, a presentation, an artistic creation or some other cumulative outcome. These projects can be pursued through school coursework with the guidance of a class and teacher, through a student club, or through an internship or other school-guided experience. The projects may focus more on the science side or the artistic side, as long as both are substantially included. "Science" may include the natural sciences and social sciences, as well as applied sciences such as architecture, construction, engineering, urban planning, wastewater management, water quality, wildlife and habitat management, pollution cleanup, recycling and policy making at various levels of government. "Arts" may include writing, music, visual art, theater, dance, storytelling, media or live performances of various kinds. It may also include the role of artists and arts organizations in the communication and expression of climate change information or their adaptation (greening) of their own organizations. Projects may include partnering with existing environmental organizations to participate in events or activities they already offer. In that case, funding might be used for transportation or fees, for example. Or projects may be developed by students, perhaps focusing on their own hyper-local place- school, community, neighborhood, etc. In that case, funding can also be used for materials, equipment, professional fees or services, etc. Students exercise skills including research, data collection and analysis, writing, interviewing, critical thinking, critical analysis of various forms of expression, and the generation of expressive responses to scientific findings. Environmental Justice is at the heart of the current climate crisis. Investigating local phenomena helps youth localize their climate research. When students center communities most affected by climate impact (human and other than human), they learn to engage in responsible research about mutual species reliance and environmental responsibility. Investigating social and environmental injustice cases can help youth broaden their understanding about interspecies reliance and environmental responsibility. These resources are designed to inspire students to gather and analyze data to create student-led climate action.
