Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (1)
  1. $442,521 spent. In cooperation with members of the pulse industry, the Pulse Foundation is supporting the Coalition for the Advancement of Pulses (CAP), an initiative to increase the consumption of pulses. The CAP project is scoped for three years to parallel the 2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans review process. The pulse industry was represented at all five Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) meetings. The DGAC scientific protocols were analyzed, and feedback was provided as necessary to maximize pulse opportunities. Throughout this process, the CAP project engaged with key industry allies to share research findings and talking points. The CAP project funded five new research projects to investigate the human health benefits of pulses, including dry peas, lentils, chickpeas, and dry beans. Four research studies have been published, and data collection for the final paper is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024.Policy efforts aimed toward informing the DGAC about the nutritional value of increased pulse consumption, combined with an external media campaign to promote recent pulse research studies, have resulted in excitement surrounding the human health benefits of consuming pulses. The CAP initiative has helped to unify members of the pulse industry behind the goals of the CAP project. The Pulse Foundation is leveraging the exposure and knowledge gained to secure sustaining financial support for future CAP initiatives, and a fundraising campaign is currently underway. Future endeavors for the Pulse Foundation and the CAP initiative include identifying research gaps and developing a strategy to achieve CAP research goals. These experiences will guide planning for the 2030 DGA scientific review.
