THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF FREMONT COUNTY (HSFC)IS AN OPEN ADMISSION SHELTER THAT PROVIDES ANIMAL CARE AND CONTROL SERVICES TO SEVEN DIFFERENT COLORADO MUNICIPALITIES: FREMONT AND CUSTER COUNTIES, THE CITIES OF CANON CITY AND FLORENCE, AND THE TOWNS OF COAL CREEK, WESTCLIFFE AND SILVER CLIFF, COLORADO. EACH OF THE ABOVE SEVEN MUNICIPALITIES INDEPENDENTLY CONTRACTED WITH HSFC. REVENUE FROM THESE CONTRACTS ACCOUNTED FOR 19.6% OF OUR TOTAL OPERATING BUDGET, REQUIRING THE SHELTER TO FUND THE REMAINING 80.4% THROUGH DONATIONS, GRANTS AND OTHER SOURCES. IN 2025 THE HSFC ADMITTED 986 LIVE ANIMALS, INCLUDING 697 CANINES, 285 FELINES AND FOUR OTHERS. ADITIONALLY, 99 ANIMALS ARRIVED DECEASED (63 DOGS, 32 CATS, AND 4 OTHERS), BRINGING THE TOTAL LIVE AND DOA INTAKE TO 1,085 ANIMALS. THIS REPRESENTS A 13% INCREASE FROM 2024. COMMUNITY RESIDENTS BROUGHT 327 STRAY ANIMALS, REPRESENTING 33% OF TOTAL LIVE INTAKE, AND SURENDERED 173 OWNED ANIMALS, ACCOUNTING FOR 18%. TOGETHER, RESIDENTS CONTRIBUTED 500 ANIMALS MORE THAN HALF OF ALL LIVE INTAKES IN 2025. ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICERS, POLICE DEPARTMENTS, AND THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT BROUGHT IN 473 ANIMALS, REPRESENTING 48% OF TOTAL LIVE INTAKES. HSFC SUCCESSFULLY REUNITED 400 PETS WITH THEIR OWNERS, ACHIEVING A 41% RETURN TO OWNER RATE. ADDITIONALLY, 338 ANIMALS WERE ADOPTED RESULTING IN A 34% ADOPTION RATE. TO ENSURE TRANSPARENCY, HSFC CALCULATES TWO SEPARATE LIVE-RELEASE (SAVE) RATES: ONBE THAT INCLUDES OWNER-REQUESTED EUTHANASIA AND ON THAT EXCLUDES IT. IN 2025, OUR LIVE-RELEASE RATE WAS 97.67% INCLUDING OWNER-REQUESTED EUTANASIA AND 98.38% WHEN EXCLUDED.
