Impact evidence

Programs described in its return (2)
- $70,414 spent. Therapeutic and Educational Program. PBR's largest engagement is a psycho-social wellness program for vulnerable and marginalized members of our community providing accessible indoor nature exposure and engagement (INE) via site-adapted, evidence-based therapeutic horticulture, comprised of interactive nature interventions (adapted for all abilities) via the primary application of indoor plants and cut flowers. In continuously expanded partnership with senior service providers, where 2025 included two new additions, Congress Heights Senior Wellness Center and the Genevieve N. Johnson Senior Day Center, older adults comprise 85% of those served. In a four-year partnership with one mental health provider, the McClendon Center, the mental health and addiction recovery community constitutes 15% of those served. In 2025, PBR served 335 older adults, 89 addiction recovery and mental health individuals, and 45 other community members. PBR benefitted from approximately 460 hours of administrative volunteer hours in the areas of grant writing and reporting, program coordination, marketing and finance.
- $7,824 spent. Plant and Flower Recovery, Repurposing and Distribution Program. In support of PBR's mission is its sustainable practice of post-event flower and plant recovery and donated flowers and indoor plants acquisition. The post-event flowers and plants come primarily from florists and event specialists that otherwise dispose of them after events. Additionally, PBR receives unused excess flower donations from florists and growers and has become the established local organization for indoor plant "adoption". This recovery and donation acquisition practice is instrumental in generating a viable source of plants and flowers used to facilitate additional wellness nature connections for even more vulnerable, nature disconnected communities (nursing and rehabilitation residents, public housing residents, medically impacted and unhoused individuals, and more). They (as well as their service providers) receive direct, often multiple time donations of indoor plants, flower arrangements and/or repurposed ("reimagined") flower bouquets. Additionally, approximately 5% of this sourcing supplements the primary Therapeutic and Educational Program, lowering material costs for direct participant programming. In 2025 more than 6,000 post-event florals, 400 donated surplus flowers and 255 indoor plants were recovered, with 1,030 repurposed bouquets created and distributed. Since PBR's inception, 66,000 post-event florals and 5,400 surplus flowers have been amassed, producing close to 26,000 repurposed and distributed bouquets and 350 flower arrangements. More than 550 indoor plants have been acquired to date. The flower repurposing component comprises 90% of this program facilitated by 180 volunteer hours and 90 hours of logistic support in 2025.
