What it says it does

To provide easily accessible quality evidenced-based nutrition services to individuals and groups as well as some personal training and group fitness classes to support the development of our community nutrition program. We offer nutrition services to those with health insurance including Medicaid and keep out-of-pocket rates the same as Medicaid rates to assure more financially accessible health care support. For clients who anticipate using health insurance who deny claims out-of-pocket rates are not charged for denied sessions to reduce unanticipated financial burdens. In 2023 we continued to save a portion of revenue to cover partial costs for a community nutrition education class based on DASH dietary eating principles. The first 4-week course is scheduled for Spring 2024 and offered to the community through a collaboration with Happy Valley Parks and Recreation.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (3)
  1. $90,855 spent. Medical Nutrition Therapy MNT was provided to 72 individuals. MNT services are paid for by clients using health insurance benefits and out-of-pocket for clients without benefits or out-of-network health insurance plans. For clients whose health insurance was anticipated to cover costs but did not services were provided for no cost as a benefit of the not-for-profit MNT program. Many individuals cannot afford out-of-pocket expenses and would be financially burdened by unexpected bills or by being sent to collections for non-payment. Additionally a portion of the revenue generated from MNT services is set aside to cover the cost of our planned Community Nutrition Programing for 2025. Most of the programs revenue covers overhead costs for the organization and the salary of the credentialed Registered Dietitian Nutritionist providing MNT services and managing the organizations daily operations.
  2. $96 spent. Community Nutrition Education and Food Demo course. DASH into Wellness a 4-week 90-minute course attended by 6 individuals. Each week explored different concepts of the DASH eating patterns. A meal or snacks was demonstrated how to prepare shared with attendees and attendees were sent how with ingredients to make the meals or snacks.
  3. 133 individuals received individual and group physical fitness services. Physical fitness services offer a holistic approach to improving individuals health and wellness. Providing physical fitness services offers an opportunity to promote the MNT program. Revenue from these services supports the MNT programs overhead costs.
