What it says it does

We're a theatrical organization committed to female+ leadership through arts and culture with an emphasis on education and performance that uplifts and recenters Jewish, women's, and immigrant narratives through outreach, education, and theater whether via full productions or new play and media development. Previous work includes The Russian & The Jew at the tank (2018), Round Table at 59e59 (TSQ's Best of 2019), and The Matriarchs at Theaterlab (Forward's Best of 2025) with generous support from Venturous Theater Fund, Bronx Cultural Visions Fund, ART/NY, and Elliot Joseph. Producing collaborations include I Came Back For Molly at Theater Row (2026) with the American Playwriting Foundation. Through ongoing readings and full presentations, we cultivate crucial cultural leadership that raises the standards of arts and culture as a benchmark of personal and global development. Liba Vaynberg and Inés Braun are honored to serve in leadership roles.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (3)
  1. $88,495 spent. Production of THE MATRIARCHS at Theaterlab, featuring Rebecca S'manga Frank (AT THE WEDDING at Lincoln Center), Helen Cespedes (The Cripple of Inishmaan on Broadway), Arielle Goldman (Let's Call Her Patty at LCT3), Anna O'Donoghue (Rock'n'Roll on Broadway), Molly Carden (Amerikin at Primary Stages), Rachel Botchan (The Pearl), Frankie Placidi (Clubbed Thumb). This production ran for 16 performances at Theaterlab with funding from the Bronx Cultural Visions Fund, ART/NY Creative Opportunity Fund, and the Venturous Theater Fund of the Tides Foundation. Individual donors also contributed, including Elliot Joseph. The production featured talkbacks, centering the themes of faith and fertility in Judaism and across religions, featuring Dr. Emmanuel D'harcourt, yiddishist Rokhl Kaffrisen, playwright Shara Feit, Rabbi Dr. Wendy Zierler (author of Going Out With Knots), Kelsey Osgood (author of Godstruck), and an affinity night with Lilith Magzine (the feminist Jewish quarterly). The run was met with terrific audience feedback and critical acclaim, including being named one of the best Jewish plays of 2025 by the Forward. This production which has previously been developed at the Civilians R&D group and the Eugene O'Neill National Playwriting Conference presented an important meeting place for women, Jews, and people on the spectrum of faith and skepticism to frankly discuss hard truths about fertility and religion and self, reflecting on our roles as gods and creators of our own lives.
  2. $1,718 spent. New play development is something we work on all year round-this year included readings by Liba Vaynberg (playwright of Matriarchs) as well as the toddler play by Helen Cespedes, Fort Knox, Florida by Leigh Flayton, Alice in Bed (with a new foreword) by Susan Sontag under Inés Braun's direction and other readings. We partnered with the American Playwriting Foundation for some of our readings that were more public-facing, allowing artists to directly engage with their audience around relevant themes. We also hosted readings internally and fostered dramaturgical conversations (after readings, led by the artists) to better understand the stage of the play and how it can progress further. We also co-produced a developmental workshop the Hearth (another organization whose mission aligns with ours).
  3. $15,000 spent. As part of our mission to foster leadership through women's arts and culture, we worked on the short art film SUITE BERGAMASQUE (starring Sharina Martin, Craig Divino, Ali Stoner, and Elia Monte-Brown) directed by Raj Trivedi by helping develop and produce the film along the lines of our organization's mission. This film focuses on a woman who is a pianist, wrestling with her demons around performance and criticism upon completion of a concert in which she played Suite Bergamasque by Claude Debussy. Our set employed a majority of women and furthered women's narratives through sensitive eand three-dimensional portrayals of the questions that haunt artists and audience members alike: did I do the thing well? Is everyone around me lying to me? When do I want to be praised and when do I want to be criticized? And why? The film is complete along with talkbacks and educational components that allow artists and audience to self-reflect.
