Financial health

We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (2)
  1. $20,546 spent. El Hato Literacy Center: This library and tutoring center has served hundreds of students from the low-income village El Hato. The Center provides a variety of free services to El Hato children and families, including: tutoring; library facilities; computer instruction and availability; educational/developmental games; and internet access for research and educational online games.
  2. $10,000 spent. Garden of Hope Learning Garden (GoH): Located in El Hato, this program provides families with opportunities to enjoy a safe, green space while at the same time learning how to grow vegetables in an environmentally sustainable way. This is accomplished by providing workshops, cooking classes, youth activities and community days. Since 2020, we have been running a program to teach vegan cooking - an inexpensive way for families to eat healthy, nutritious meals with minimal environmental impact. We helped the local public elementary school start a school vegetable garden and continue to support it. We are currently helping community members start their own vegetable gardens. Every year we also run a vacation camp in which children can stay active during six weeks of Guatemala's long end-of-year break while at the same time participating in educational activities, with an emphasis on nutrition and caring for the environment, animals and other people.
