What it says it does

Humanity Relief is a not-for-profit organization that has been resettling refugees, survivors of domestic violence, survivors of human/sex trafficking and homeless families in Chicago and Chicagoland for over eight years. The reason we focus on them is because they lack the resources to strive toward upward mobility and although housing is their most immediate need, we provide everything a home needs and continue to assist them with the resources and skills they need to achieve their goal of stability. Most of our clients are seeking employment since they are exiting local shelter programs or have recently entered the United States. We also do mobile care package and food distributions for the homeless on the south and west sides.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (3)
  1. $35,662 spent. Resettlement Program: We furnish transitional apartments for homeless families, refugees, domestic violence and trafficking survivors exiting shelters/entering the country. Along with furnishings we ensure that we provide essentials like hygiene items, cleaning supplies, school supplies, clothing and other basics so resettlement families have everything they need to pursue upward mobility immediately. This is our largest program, on average we resettle 2-4 families a week. We purchase beds, dressers and other discounted items from Good360 and Amazon Business.
  2. $1,344 spent. Skill Development Program: Our mentors and teachers are certified and experienced in working with refugees and domestic violence/trafficking survivors. After our clients have been resettled our teachers and mentors work with them both one-on-one and in-class to not only develop English reading and writing skills but to also improve their resumes and job interview skills! Budget printers/laptops are provided upon request to students who attend classes regularly. Typically, resettlement clients are referred to us from partnered charities that run transitional housing and shelter programs.
  3. $4,760 spent. Mobile Homeless Distribution Program: We are one of the very few charities that does mobile distributions every week in the city of Chicago! Volunteers and staff members take our cargo van outside shelters on the south and west sides to distribute care packages to the homeless. Care packages consist of food, clothing items, hygiene products, etc.
