- $307,254 spent. The Idea Store Creative Reuse Center served 30,584 paying customers from our community in 2024 by providing low-cost traditional and non-traditional materials for arts, crafts, education, and other uses. All of our materials were donated by community members and local businesses and sold at 10-50% of retail value. Our store accepted 59,134 pounds of materials, or about 29.5 tons, in 2025. These items would have otherwise gone to the landfill. Approximately 40 individuals regularly volunteered numerous hours of their time, and several service groups from the community and the University of Illinois also volunteered at the store during 2025. In addition to the selling of the used materials, the Center is once again offering occasional workshops and group events the involve demonstrations and teaching of the art of crafting with used materials (These events were previously offered prior to the COVID outbreak). The Center is working to have these workshops/events occur on a more regular basis.
