What it says it does
Our mission is to foster empathy and build a more inclusive community by sharing immigrants' stories. We envision a compassionate world that celebrates immigrants and values diversity. We share stories with live storytelling events, exhibits around the Portland/Metro area, stories posted to our website, and podcasts to name a few. The stories told by immigrants showcase their experiences, hurdles they encountered, and their successes.

Impact evidence

Programs described in its return (4)
- $61,034 spent. We shared immigrants' stories through The Immigrant Story Live events. These events take place 3-4 times per year at various locations. For 2025, the main event was held at the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts. The other events were held at two universities and Portland Center Stage.
- $2,600 spent. We award small scholarships to students majoring in journalism or a related field where students write stories about immigrants or participate in podcast production. Each student is assigned a mentor who coaches the student in the art of writing, publishing articles, and creating a portfolio.
- $6,152 spent. The organization produces several podcasts each year in it's Many Roads To Here program. For 2025, eight podcasts were produced featuring success stories and what hurdles were overcome.
- $912 spent. The Immigrant Story had two other minor programs during 2025. We published a book in a prior year and sold a number of copies. Costs related to the project were $869. We also worked on a Food Cart project to see if it would be a viable way to feature immigrants who ran food cart businesses and the kinds of foods they sold. Costs related to this project were $43.
