A CHILDS DIAGNOSIS OFTEN CREATES IMMEDIATE FINANCIAL HARDSHIP AS PARENTS REDUCE THEIR WORK HOURS OR LEAVE THEIR EMPLOYMENT TO BECOME FULL-TIME CAREGIVERS. THROUGH THE CRITICAL NEED PROGRAM, THE FOUNDATION HELPS ENSURE THAT FAMILIES CAN FOCUS ON THEIR CHILDS MEDICAL CARE RATHER THAN THE FINANCIAL BURDEN OF ILLNESS. DIRECT ASSISTANCE IS PROVIDED FOR RENT OR MORTGAGE PAYMENTS, UTILITIES, FOOD, TRANSPORTATION TO MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS, SPECIALIZED MEDICAL EQUIPMENT, HOME MODIFICATIONS, WHEELCHAIR RAMPS, VEHICLE ADAPTATIONS, AND OTHER ESSENTIAL NEEDS NOT COVERED BY INSURANCE. THE SERVICE DOG PROGRAM PROVIDES PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED SERVICE DOGS TO CHILDREN LIVING WITH LIFE-THREATENING ILLNESSES AND DISABILITIES WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM TASK-SPECIFIC ASSISTANCE. THESE SPECIALLY TRAINED DOGS HELP CHILDREN WITH A VARIETY OF MEDICAL CONDITIONS, INCLUDING SEIZURE DISORDERS, AND OTHER COMPLEX MEDICAL NEEDS. SERVICE DOGS PROVIDE BOTH PRACTICAL ASSISTANCE AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT, HELPING CHILDREN GAIN GREATER INDEPENDENCE, CONFIDENCE, AND SAFETY WHILE IMPROVING THEIR OVERALL QUALITY OF LIFE. CHASIN A DREAM FOUNDATION PARTNERS WITH PROFESSIONAL TRAINERS TO ENSURE EACH DOG RECEIVES EXTENSIVE TRAINING BASED ON THE INDIVIDUAL NEEDS OF THE CHILD. DOGS ARE TRAINED TO PERFORM SPECIALIZED TASKS SUCH AS ALERTING TO MEDICAL EPISODES, PROVIDING STABILITY AND MOBILITY SUPPORT, ASSISTING WITH DAILY ACTIVITIES, AND OFFERING CALMING COMPANIONSHIP DURING MEDICAL TREATMENTS AND RECOVERY. TO DATE, THE FOUNDATION HAS MATCHED 12 CHILDREN WITH PROFESSIONAL TRAINED SERVICE DOGS. THESE LIFE-CHANGING PARTNERSHIPS PROVIDE LASTING PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, AND THERAPEUTIC BENEFITS TO BOTH THE CHILD AND THEIR FAMILY, WHILE REDUCING CAREGIVER STRESS AND ENHANCING THE CHILDS ABILITY TO PARTICIPATE MORE FULLY IN DAILY LIFE.
  2. $94,615 spent. THE HOSPITAL BACKPACK PROGRAM PROVIDES PERSONALIZED BACKPACKS TO CHILDREN NEWLY DIAGNOSED WITH LIFE-THREATENING ILLNESS OR DISABILITY WHO ARE IMMEDIATELY ADMITTED TO THE HOSPITAL. DURING THESE CRITICAL FIRST DAYS, FAMILIES OFTEN ARRIVE WITH FEW PERSONAL BELONGINGS AS THEIR ENTIRE FOCUS IS ON THEIR CHILDS MEDICAL EMERGENCY. EACH BACKPACK INCLUDES AN IPAD OR CHROMEBOOK TO HELP CHILDREN REMAIN CONNECTED WITH FAMILY, FRIENDS, SCHOOL, AND MEDICAL RESOURCES, ALONG WITH HANDMADE QUILTS, STUFFED ANIMALS CREATED BY LOCAL VOLUNTEERS, TOYS, GAMES, ARTS AND CRAFTS, TOILETRIES, JOURNALS, PLANNERS, DIFFUSERS WITH ESSENTIAL OILS, GIFT CARDS, AND OTHER ITEMS THAT PROVIDE COMPORT DURING EXTENDED HOSPITAL STAYS. SINCE THE PROGRAMS INCEPTION, MORE THAN 630 BACKPACKS HAVE BEEN PROVIDED TO CHILDREN FACING SOME OF THE MOST CHALLENGING DAYS OF THEIR LIVES. THE PROGRAM HELPS REDUCE STRESS FOR BOTH THE CHILD AND THEIR FAMILY WHILE PROVIDING COMFORT, NORMALCY, AND PRACTICAL RESOURCES DURING AN UNEXPECTED MEDICAL CRISIS.
  3. $33,896 spent. THE MINDFUL HAVEN PROGRAM PROVIDES MENTAL HEALTH AND EMOTIONAL WELLNESS SERVICES TO PARENTS AND PRIMARY CAREGIVERS OF CHILDREN BATTLING LIFE-THREATENING ILLNESSES AND DISABILITIES. WHILE A CHILDS DIAGNOSIS RECEIVES IMMEDIATE ATTENTION, THE EMOTIONAL AND PHYSCHOLOGICAL IMPACT ON PARENTS IS OFTEN OVERLOOKED. MANY CAREGIVERS EXPERIENCE CHRONIC STRESS, ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, GRIEF, AND ISOLATION AS THEY NAVIGATE THEIR CHILDS MEDICAL JOURNEY. THE PROGRAM OFFERS INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING, SUPPORT GROUPS, MINDFULNESS AND MEDITATION SESSIONS, YOGA, JOURNELING, EMPOWERMENT WORKSHOPS, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, AND THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES DESIGNED TO HELP PARENTS BUILD RESILIENCE, IMPROVE THEIR EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING, AND DEVELOP HEATHLY COPING STRATEGIES. ALL SERVICES ARE PROVIDED AT NO COST TO PARTICIPATING FAMILIES. SINCE ITS LAUNCH, 53 PARENTS HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THE MINDFUL HAVEN PROGRAM.
