Financial health

We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (3)
  1. $3,298 spent. Working with the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition Service, provided talks, documentary film screening and workshops at exhibition sites of the Japanese War Brides: Across a Wide Divide exhibition. This included a film showing with Q and A in Irving, Texas on March 15 at the Irving Archives and Community Museum, and presentations in Delray Beach, Florida for the opening of the exhibit at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens. We did two film screenings in Florida - in May and in July.
  2. $1,970 spent. For shooting of the full-length documentary film, we screened an early version for an audience of 50 on March 28 at the monthly meeting of ZAJA-NYC, a New York-based Japanese culture group. Based on their feedback, and a detailed feedback session with playwright Patrick Lee, we rented a small studio and shot more footage for continual rounds of restructuring and re-editing, toward a completion date of September, 2026. We conducted a search for additional historical images in Japan, which will augment existing private, public and commercial archive photos from Japan and the U.S.
  3. Applied for and received $15,000 grant from the US-Japan Foundation to support community engagement at venue sites for the Smithsonian traveling exhibition "Across a Wide Divide." The activities include introductions to the exhibition and the stories of Japanese war brides, screening of the short documentary film "Fall Seven Times, Get Up Eight", workshops on conducting oral histories and further interview of war brides and their families.
