RIVERUN FIRST OPENED ON SEPTEMBER 3, 2008 AND CURRENTLY SERVES APPROXIMATELY 50 STUDENTS FROM PRESCHOOL THROUGH GRADE 8. THE PROGRAM OPERATES FROM 7:45AM TO 5:30PM FOLLOWING A CALENDAR THAT IS SIMILAR TO THAT OF LOCAL AREA SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND INCLUDES APPROXIMATELY 175 TEACHING DAYS EACH YEAR. IN THE FUTURE, WE PLAN TO EXPAND TO OFFER AGES 3-14 YEARS PRESCHOOL THROUGH GRADE 9. AS A MONTESSORI SCHOOL, RIVERRUN OPERATES IN A MULTI AGE ENVIROMENT.GRADES 1-4 IN A SINGLE LOWER ELEMENTARY CLASSROOM;PRACTICES THE STUDY OF LIFE; IMPLEMENTS A WHOLE-CHILD APPROACH THAT CONSIDERS EACH STUDENT; AND PROVIDES AN INDIDIVUALIZED EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE FEATURES A GREAT DEAL OF HANDS ON MATERIALS LEADS STUDENTS TO IMMERSION IN THEMATIC STUDIES, AND FOCUSES ON ACHIEVEING SOCIAL HARMONY WITHIN ITS COMMUNITY ENVIROMENT. STUDENTS WORK RESEARCH STYLE, EITHER INDEPENDENTLY OR IN SMALL GROUPS. THEY MOVE FROM THE CONCRETE TO THE ABSTACT MOTIVATED BY THEIR OWN INTERESTS, EFFORTS, AND EXPERIENCES. GUIDED AS APPROPRIATE BY THE DIRECTRESS, STUDENTS CHOOSE THEIR OWN ACTIVITES BASED ON THEIR CURIOUSITY, IMAGINATION, AND LEVEL OF INTELLECT. RIVERUN STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT GEOGRAPHY, HISTORY, LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICS, SCIENCE, MUSIC, ART, AND EVERYDAY LIVING. RECESS IS A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF EVERYDAY.CLUBS, INTRAMURALS,AND EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES ARE MADE TO BE MADE AVAILABLE BASED ON THE STUDENTS INTERESTS. IN ADDITION, RIVERUNN STRIVES TO FUNCTION AS A COMMUNITY WITHIN A COMMUNITY AND TO ACTIVELY INCOROPORATE THE WIDER COMMUNITY INTO ITS ROUTINE OPERATIONS BY THE WAY OF CURRICULM CONTENT,FIELD STUDIES, AND COMMUNITY VISITORS TO THE SCHOOL.THE WORKING BOARD OF TRUSTEES IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ADMINISTRATION AND LEADERSHIP OF THE SCHOOL. EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES ARE LED BY THE MONTESSORI-CERTIFIED TEACHERS AND CLASSROOM ASSISTANTS. THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND PARENT VOLUNTEERS CONDUCT FUND RAISING ACTIVITIES AND APPLY FOR GRANTS IN AN EFFORT TO KEEP TUITION AS LOW AS POSSIBLE.
