Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

  1. $38,450 spent. Coastal conservation - Every year we coordinate and provide 15 or more 3 - 4 hour environmental stewardship events, directly serving an average of 1,000 participants and volunteers a year in the northwest coast of Puerto Rico with the objective of increasing environmental consciousness, community engagement and participation. Our events include seed recollection, volunteer days for plant maintenance at our coastal plant nursery, coastal plantings for the improvement of sand dune, mangrove plantings, beach cleanups and educational guided tours in highly valued ecological and historical areas.

Environmental education - We offer and/ or host 15 environmentally themed 1 - 3 hour workshops to children, youth and the general public in underserved coastal communities, public or private schools, afterschool programs and other community spaces with the objective of increasing knowledge, gaining support for our coastal conservation initiatives and promoting public participation in environmental protection efforts. Some of the topics include the Atlantea Tulita: Puerto Rico's only endemic and endangered butterfly, Public Domain Goods and the Maritime/Terrestrial Zone, and Coastal biodiversity.
  3. $26,258 spent. Community Participation and Collaboration - Every year we collaborate in 5 to 10 different local coastal community initiatives coordinated by other community groups in the northwest region of the island by actively participating and supporting these events through the donation of coastal native plants or other resources, marketing or facilitating connections, offering consulting and administrative support, getting involved in community public policy and organization with the objective of increasing social cohesion in environmental protection efforts.
