What it says it does
The Sarasota Lawn Bowling Club, Inc. (SLBC) welcomes lawn bowlers of all skill levels (beginner to expert) who live in Sarasota full time or visit Sarasota from all over the world during our Winter months. We especially welcome new lawn bowlers and provide formal beginner training as well as ongoing technique instruction. We offer informal 'jitneys" (i.e. games) for players of all skill levels, club tournament opportunities, and open tournament opportunities which include teams from the Southern Gulf Coast region of Florida. Modern Lawn Bowling began in the 1830's in England, but it is truly a 21st century sport. Women compete equally with men, seniors compete equally with younger bowlers, bowlers of different skill levels can play together in the same game at the same time, and handicapped players can play at competitive levels.

Financial health
We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance
This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Programs described in its return (3)
- INTRODUCING THE SPORT TO NEW BOWLERS. In 2025 we conducted 7 formal training classes for beginners, introducing the sport to almost 100 new people (average class size 14). We partnered with Suncoast Technical College, offering our classes through their Adult & Community Enrichment program (ACE), and share in the fees received. We conduct these classes with volunteer experienced members and certified coaches, resulting in zero cost to the Club. In 2025 we had 30 students join as full time members.
- $49,435 spent. Our largest expense is MAINTAINING OUR GREEN FOR YEAR-ROUND PLAY. We paid an outside greenskeeper for consultation and heavy maintenance items like mowing, rolling, fertilizer, irrigation, etc., but also utilize volunteer members year-round to help with maintenance of the green and the surrounding areas. Last year 10-20 volunteer members donated picnic tables, plants, benches, and umbrellas to create newly defined picnic and garden areas where we can have lunches after bowling, board meetings and social events. We offer informal 'jitneys" (games) during the day M, W, F, Sat. as well as Tu and Th evening bowling. We ended the year with 63 full time members and have approximately 10 bowlers who consistently pay a daily rate when they choose to play.
- $1,311 spent. With Bowls USA grant money received of $770, we purchased 2 new sets of smaller bowls for new female students with smaller hands at a cost of $1,311. Each set includes 4 bowls. This cost included an unexpected customs/tariff charge of $279. All members can bowl with any set of bowls, but 20% of members are assumed to use these smaller bowls.
