What it says it does

The Association of Bankruptcy Judges Secretaries was chartered in 1989 by 14 secretaries. The organization's history shows that on October 5, 1994, the name had been changed to what is now known as the Association of Bankruptcy Judicial Assistants (ABJA). The purpose of the organization is to promote the general welfare of its members, to encourage the highest standards of conduct among its members and the profession at large, to promote the continuing education of its members, and to foster among its members a feeling of camaraderie and mutual confidence.

Financial health

We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (2)
  1. $12,981 spent. One of the primary objectives of the ABJA is to offer continuing education programs at its annual meeting and educational conference. This conference, usually held for three days in early October, focuses on professional training as well as personal growth.
  2. $8,111 spent. An integral part of the ABJA has been the development of educational programs for our members and the bankruptcy legal community. Understanding that certification in a particular field can promote and maintain professional standards. In 1999, the Association of Bankruptcy Judicial Assistants' Continuing Legal Education Committee developed a bankruptcy certification program for its membership. The program is known as the Certified Bankruptcy Assistant program (CBA). After completing a course and testing, the participant will thereafter have a Certified Bankruptcy Assistant certification. The CBA program is conducted in conjunction with the ABJA Annual Conference which is held yearly in October. The location of the Conference is open to any city and state across the U.S.
