Impact evidence
Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.
Programs described in its return (6)
- $2.4 million spent. Children's Services - Our Early Learning Academy provides a safe, nurturing, and comprehensive child development program for 180 children (ages 6 weeks - 5 years) that fosters the maximum development of each child socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively while remaining affordable for their parents or caregivers. We provide 60 children with a free pre-k program, certified and funded by Georgia State Lottery (Bright From The Start). Children experience hands-on activities that prepare each one for kindergarten and beyond.
- $359,305 spent. Digital Skills Academy - Women in low and moderate income communities face several barriers to economic and social progress that are not often acknowledged in public policy decisions. These include: access to affordable childcare; access to healthcare; and availability of training for jobs that pay a living wage. YWCA Greater Atlanta's Digital Skills Academy (DSA) addresses these barriers by providing programming at no cost to enable women to step beyond them. DSA provides workforce development experience for women to increase their skill sets and work in high-demand, technology-based careers that have higher salaries, greater upward mobility, and more flexible work schedules. Participants receive extensive support, training, and coaching. 72% of women submit job applications, and 41% of women secure career advancing positions. The program's impact goes beyond measurable outcomes, as it transforms participants' lives and creates new opportunities. Since 2021 the program has served over 300 women.
- $247,105 spent. ENCORE plus - Encoreplus is a community-based breast cancer awareness program designed to educate and increase breast cancer early detection among under-served and uninsured women of color. More than 1,200 women receive breast health education and more than 200 receive mammograms annually. The program addresses barriers to early breast cancer detection for women - particularly women of color- including poverty, lack of insurance, fear, culture, and system navigation, and educates program participants about breast cancer risk factors and prevention. The goal of the ENCOREplus program is to reduce the morbidity and mortality rates for underserved, uninsured, and underinsured women by providing, free mammograms, clinical breast exams and awareness to diagnose breast cancer in an early stage.
- $221,393 spent. ADVOCACY
- $90,493 spent. Teen Girls in Technology
- ADVOCACY DEPARTMENT - YWCA GREATER ATLANTA'S GEORGIA WOMEN'S POLICY INSTITUTE (GWPI) IS OUR SIGNATURE LEADERSHIP, ADVOCACY AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT TRAINING PROGRAM WHERE WOMEN FROM DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS LEARN HOW TO DEVELOP AND SUPPORT STATE-LEVEL POLICY. SINCE 2011, GWPI HAS BEEN EMPOWERING INDIVIDUALS TO BE INFORMED AND PASSIONATE ADVOCATES FOR RACIAL AND ECONOMIC JUSTICE ISSUES. GWPI WORKS CLOSELY WITH SPELMAN COLLEGE TO INCLUDE STUDENT FELLOWS IN THE PROGRAM. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, GWPI MEMBERS WILL ATTEND TRAINING SESSIONS, RACIAL JUSTICE WORKSHOPS, AND DEVELOP POLICY PROPOSALS FOCUSED ON IMPROVING THE LIVES OF WOMEN AND THEIR FAMILIES THROUGH THE LENS OF RACIAL AND ECONOMIC JUSTICE. THEY WILL ALSO ADVOCATE FOR THESE POLICY CHANGES DURING THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION. DURING THE RECENT 2024 GEORGIA LEGISLATIVE SESSION, THE GWPI POLICY AGENDA INCLUDED ISSUES SUCH AS PASSING COMPREHENSIVE AND AFFORDABLE PAID FAMILY AND MEDICAL LEAVE FOR GEORGIANS, AND ENACTING WORKPLACE ANTI-DISCRIMINATION LEGISLATION. TEEN GIRLS IN TECHNOLOGY (TGI TECH) - TGI Tech Empowers girls to explore career opportunities in science, engineering, arts/design, & math (STEAM) During the 2024-2025 school year YWCA Greater Atlanta piloted a new model for TGI-tech with 9th grade girls at Therrell High School. The program launched to help girls tap into their voice, explore technology, and design solutions to real-world community issues. Utilizing basic design thinking and tech tools, 6 squads submitted mobile app prototypes to address social challenges, including mental health, homelessness, and job readiness. At the end of the program 81% felt proud or excited to be in a STEAM program and 98% believe that people who look like them can succeed in STEAM careers. 100% of participants were given a laptop computer that is theirs to keep. TGI Tech was established in 2006 to excite young girls about careers in science, technology, engineering, arts/design, and math through after-school instruction, college prep workshops, and field trip experiences. By helping our TGI Tech participants develop strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, we hope to increase their interest, confidence, and competence in STEAM subjects and put them on a path to non-traditional careers in science and technology. From 2006 - 2020 TGI Tech was offered to middle and high school girls (ages 12-18) at 13 Title I public schools in Fulton, Dekalb, and Cobb counties. Participants learned through weekly after-school sessions, monthly college prep workshops, and field trips. 200 TGI Tech participants graduated from high school and were accepted into college.
