What it says it does

EMPOWERING OUR MEMBERS TO DESIGN A SUSTAINABLE AND EQUITABLE WORLD THROUGH LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE. PUT SIMPLY, ASLA HELPS ITS MEMBERS CREATE A WORLD THAT'S BOTH FAIR AND GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT THROUGH LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE. ASLA WORKS HARD TO PUT ITS MEMBERS FIRST AND EXPAND THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE PROFESSION. WE WANT OUR MEMBERS TO SEE US AS A VALUABLE COMMUNITY WHERE THEY CAN GROW PROFESSIONALLY AND FIND LEADERS IN THEIR FIELD. WE FOCUS ON WHAT MATTERS MOST: HELPING CURRENT AND FUTURE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS, TEAMING UP WITH GROUPS THAT SHARE OUR VALUES, AND CHAMPIONING NEW IDEAS. WE ALSO ENSURE ASLA IS STRONG AND CAN MAKE A BIG IMPACT. WE GIVE OUR MEMBERS A VOICE, SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE, AND TEACH PEOPLE WHY IT'S SO IMPORTANT.

Financial health

We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance

This return does not answer enough of the governance questions to score.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (3)
  1. ASLA MEMBERSHIP MAKES A DIFFERENCE. ASLA SUPPORTS A VIBRANT AND GROWING COMMUNITY OF NEARLY 17,000 MEMBERS, PROVIDING LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS AT EVERY STAGE OF THEIR CAREERS WITH CONNECTION AND OPPORTUNITY. IN 2024, THE ORGANIZATION INVESTED MORE THAN HALF OF ITS BUDGET DIRECTLY INTO MEMBER SERVICES AND EDUCATION, ENSURING ACCESS TO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, NETWORKING, AND ESSENTIAL RESOURCES. ASLA ACTIVELY DEFENDED THE PROFESSION BY TRACKING MORE THAN 170 BILLS RELATED TO LICENSURE AND SUCCESSFULLY OPPOSING DEREGULATION EFFORTS. MEMBERS BENEFITED FROM NEW RESOURCES, INCLUDING GUIDES ON CLIMATE ACTION AND DECARBONIZING DESIGN, WHICH SUPPORT INNOVATION AND BEST PRACTICES IN THE FIELD. NATIONAL OUTREACH EFFORTS, SUCH AS AN NPR RADIO CAMPAIGN THAT REACHED NEARLY 4 MILLION LISTENERS, ELEVATED PUBLIC AWARENESS OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE AND THE VALUE OF THE PROFESSION. THROUGH EVENTS, CHAPTER ACTIVITIES, AND NATIONAL INITIATIVES, ASLA FOSTERED A MORE CONNECTED, VISIBLE, AND EMPOWERED COMMUNITY FOR ALL MEMBERS.
  2. LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE MAGAZINE SERVES AS THE PUBLICATION OF RECORD. LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE MAGAZINE SERVES AS ASLA'S FLAGSHIP PUBLICATION, DELIVERING TIMELY RESEARCH, BEST PRACTICES, AND COMPELLING STORIES TO THOUSANDS OF READERS EACH MONTH. IN 2024, THE MAGAZINE EARNED TWO AZBEE AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN ART DIRECTION AND DESIGN AND WAS RECOGNIZED AS A FINALIST FOR THE PRESTIGIOUS JESSE H. NEAL AWARDS. THESE EXTERNAL AWARDS UNDERSCORE THE RESPECT THE MAGAZINE HAS AS A LEADER IN PROFESSIONAL PUBLISHING. THE MAGAZINE'S COVERAGE OF CLIMATE ACTION, DESIGN INNOVATION, AND THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS WORLDWIDE NOT ONLY SUPPORTS THE PROFESSIONAL GROWTH OF MEMBERS BUT ALSO ELEVATES PUBLIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE FIELD. THROUGH ITS AWARD-WINNING CONTENT, LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE MAGAZINE ADVANCES THE PROFESSION, AMPLIFIES THE VOICES OF PRACTITIONERS, AND DEMONSTRATES THE FAR-REACHING IMPACT OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE ON SOCIETY AND THE ENVIRONMENT.
  3. THE ASLA CONFERENCE ON LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE IS THE PROFESSION'S PREMIER EVENT EACH YEAR. IN 2024, THE CONFERENCE ON LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE BROUGHT TOGETHER MORE THAN 6,500 PROFESSIONALS, STUDENTS, AND EXHIBITORS TO CELEBRATE ASLA'S 125TH ANNIVERSARY IN WASHINGTON, D.C. THE CONFERENCE DELIVERED MORE THAN 100 EDUCATION SESSIONS, ALONG WITH HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS, AND FIELD TOURS OF LANDMARK PROJECTS. THE CONFERENCE PROVIDES ATTENDEES WITH PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE, INSPIRATION, AND CAREER-ENHANCING CONNECTIONS. THE EVENT'S EXPANSIVE EXPO FEATURED MORE THAN 300 EXHIBITORS, WHILE POPULAR LEARNING LABS AND THE SKETCH LOUNGE OFFERED OPPORTUNITIES TO EXPLORE NEW TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES. ASLA REINFORCED ITS COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY BY ACHIEVING A 1,600% INCREASE IN TRAIN TRAVEL OVER THE PREVIOUS YEAR, DONATING 30,000 POUNDS OF EXPO MATERIALS TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY, AND FUNDING MORE THAN 3,500 CARBON OFFSETS. THROUGH THESE EXPERIENCES AND INITIATIVES, THE CONFERENCE ADVANCED PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE, FOSTERED COLLABORATION, AND DEMONSTRATED THE POSITIVE IMPACT OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE ON COMMUNITIES AND THE ENVIRONMENT.
