Garden Club of America: St. George's donated $150,000 to the General Medal Fund of the Garden Club of America (GCA) to establish the Ellen Harvey Kelly Medal in memory of Ellen Harvey Kelly. The Ellen Harvey Kelly Medal may be awarded to members or non-members and may be bestowed for exceptional advocacy in support of any cause related to the purpose of GCA. The GCA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and each year awards up to ten national medals to nationally or internationally recognized leaders in their fields of study or achievement. The recipients represent a variety of talents and achievements. In 2025, for example, they included an environmental attorney committed to preserving open space; a floral designer who has inspired civic pride and built community through his artistry; and a former chemicals/materials executive who has promoted global innovation in support of healthy oceans and a sustainable blue economy. The inaugural Ellen Harvey Kelly Medal was awarded to The Nature Conservancy (TNC). TNC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has worked for over seven decades to conserve land and water through collaborative and bipartisan efforts. TNC impacts conservation in over 80 countries and territories. It has protected over 125 million acres of land and 5,000 river miles and operates more than 100 marine conservation projects.
- $15,200 spent. Ellie Kelly Field Trip Fund: St. George's donated $15,200 to the Irvine Nature Center to establish the Ellie Kelly Field Trip Fund. The Irvine Nature Center's grant-funded field trips provide Title I students with a half-day learning experience on their eight miles of trails through forest, wetlands, and meadows. Students participate in guided hikes with Irvine's naturalists, interact with Irvine's animal ambassadors, and partake in team-building activities. Each field trip can serve up to 40 students and has a minimum of three naturalists who lead students through activity stations. Irvine field trips correspond with the Baltimore County science curriculum standards and serve a wide range of ages from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade. The Ellie Kelly Field Trip Fund will be able to provide sixteen fully funded field trips, including transportation.
- $10,000 spent. BLISS Meadows Grant: St. George's applied for and was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Garden Club of America (GCA) to benefit the BLISS Meadows project at Backyard Basecamp. Backyard Basecamp is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in northeast Baltimore City. BLISS Meadows, an existing ten-acre land reclamation project, operates a market garden, a summer camp, and an orchard; raises chickens; and has established an apiary. The market garden grows 20,000 pounds of produce, all of which is sold, shared, or consumed. BLISS has brought the benefits of fresh produce to the area with nutritional education and food preparation workshops. This pass-through grant went toward the creation of a community garden at BLISS Meadows. St. George's will support the installation of fourteen raised beds and help maintain six native pollinator gardens totaling 3,000 square feet. This community garden will be available to neighbors to cultivate their own fresh produce.
