Programs described in its return (1)
  1. $128,980 spent. AYUDA VOLUNTEER TRAINING PROGRAMThe purpose of the AYUDA Volunteer Training Program (VTP) is to prepare AYUDA volunteers to serve as agents of change in the diabetes communities where they will volunteer. Pre-program training is well established at AYUDA. In 2024, AYUDA continued to improve its volunteer training process to deliver dynamic online training sessions (VTP E-course) to supplement in-person training(VTP Summit). Additional cultural orientation took place in-country. The AYUDA VTP offered a comprehensive, culturally aware, and well-received approach to diabetes education, social entrepreneurship, and leadership training. Focusing on AYUDAs founding principle of youth leadership and empowerment, AYUDA trained and placed over 20 volunteers abroad in 2024. Of note, over half of AYUDA's returning volunteers were Experienced AYUDA Volunteers from the previous year - further highlighting AYUDA's commitment to youth leadership training and youth civic engagement.Dominican Republic (DR) Volunteer Programs:Campo Amigo Volunteer Program AYUDA continued its support and collaboration with Aprendiendo a Vivir (AAV) in the DR in 2023. AAV is AYUDAs local partner in the DR, and AYUDA has been partnering with the organization since 2009. The AYUDA Campo Amigo DR Volunteer program was AYUDA's first program in the DR and is aimed at those who want to empower local children who have type 1 diabetes and their families. During this program, AYUDA volunteers collaborated with AYUDA's partner organization AAV. AYUDA volunteers, led by AYUDA staff, worked closely with AAV local staff, local endocrinologists, and rising youth leaders to plan and implement community outreach projects and diabetes education. Workshops supported peopole with diabetes of all ages and their families in multiple provinces in the DR. The team worked together to run Campo Amigo: a two-weekend long diabetes education program focused on children with type 1 diabtes and their families. Volunteers will also participate in-home visits and outreach trips to nearby cities, such as San Pedro de Macoris and San Cristobal, to see first-hand how these families manage their children's diabetes. Over 300 children and family members attended the camps.DR Internship ProgramThe AYUDA Internship was created to provide AYUDAs dual-program volunteers with an opportunity to pursue their academic and/or professional interests.Ecuador OutreachAYUDA continued its support of its longest running program: Campo Amigo Ecuador by providing office space for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation of Ecuador (FDJE), our local partner organization in Quito.
