- $5.0 million spent. Hagley Museum is located on 235 acres along the banks of the Brandywine River in Wilmington, Delaware. Hagley is the site of the gunpowder works founded by E. I. du Pont de Nemours in 1802. This example of early American industry includes restored mills, a workers' community, and the ancestral home and gardens of the du Pont family. Hagley exhibits objects and artifacts that interpret the unfolding history of American business, technology, and innovation, and its impact on the world.
- $4.4 million spent. Hagley's Research Library supports research on the history of American business, commerce, consumption, technology, and design within their broad social, cultural, and political contexts. Each year hundreds of scholars come to the Library to do research using Hagley's materials and archives. In 1986, the Center for the History of Business, Technology, and Society was organized to administer Hagley's interactions with the world of scholarship.
