Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Programs described in its return (3)
  1. $116,880 spent. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT BELIEVES THAT SUPPORTING ARTISTS AND COMMUNITY-ENGAGED ART PROJECTS ARE CRITICAL TO FOSTERING A VIBRANT, MORE CONNECTED SOCIETY. WE ARE COMMITTED TO PROVIDING GRANTS THAT SUPPORT INDEPENDENT ARTISTS AND CREATIVES AND THEIR COMMUNITY-ENGAGED PROJECTS. ONE OF OUR PRIMARY INITIATIVES IS OUR ARTISTS & CREATIVES GRANTS, WHICH AWARDS FUNDING TO THOSE PARTICULARLY IN MINORITY OR LGBTQ COMMUNITIES MAKING OR PRESENTING CREATIVE WORK RELATING TO OR ENCOURAGING COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. THESE PROJECTS ARE DIVERSE AND IMPACTFUL, SUCH AS PUBLIC MURALS THAT EXPRESS A COMMUNITY'S VOICE, VIDEOS AND PHOTOS THAT CAPTURE A COMMUNITY'S STORIES, AND INNOVATIVE WORKSHOPS AND EVENTS WHERE COMMUNITIES CAN CONNECT THROUGH SHARED CREATIVE EXPERIENCES. IN 2025, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AWARDED 46 ARTISTS/CREATIVES WITH INDIVIDUAL GRANTS OF UP TO $2,500 EACH. SINCE OUR INCEPTION, WE HAVE AWARDED INDIVIDUAL GRANTS TO OVER 250 ARTISTS AND CREATIVES IN ITS COMMUNITIES, INCLUDING MANY WHO HAVE HISTORICALLY HAD LESS ACCESS TO TRADITIONAL ARTS FUNDING. THESE TALENTED INDEPENDENT CREATIVES AND ARTIST COLLECTIVES ARE PRESENTING ART THAT ENGAGES COMMUNITIES IN NEW, DISTINCT AND IMAGINATIVE WAYS.
  2. $39,629 spent. THE CREATIVES-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH GRAND CENTRAL ART CENTER, REDEFINES ARTIST RESIDENCIES BY EMBEDDING CREATIVES WITHIN LOW-INCOME COMMUNITIES TO FOSTER COLLABORATION BETWEEN ARTISTS, FAMILIES, AND NEIGHBORS THROUGH CREATIVE PLACEMAKING. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES HOUSING AND A STIPEND, ENABLING RESIDENTS TO DEVELOP SUSTAINABLE, PLACE-BASED INITIATIVES TAILORED TO EACH COMMUNITY'S NEEDS. IN PHOENIX, THE PROGRAM SUPPORTS AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMMING, OFFERING HOMEWORK HELP, SPORTS, HEALTHY SNACKS, BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS, AND COMMUNITY GAMES. RESIDENTS OF ALL AGES PARTICIPATE IN PROJECTS LIKE COMMUNITY GARDENS AND YOUTH-LED SERVICE ACTIVITIES ASSISTING ELDERLY AND DISABLED NEIGHBORS. THE "52 WEEKS OF KINDNESS" INITIATIVE REINFORCES A CULTURE OF COMPASSION THROUGH WEEKLY VISUAL REMINDERS. ARTS EXPOSURE, SEASONAL CELEBRATIONS, HOLIDAY-THEMED CRAFTS, AND HEALTH-FOCUSED ACTIVITIES LIKE POKEMON GO PROMOTE ENGAGEMENT, CREATIVITY, AND WELLNESS. RESIDENTS ALSO RECEIVE ADVOCACY SUPPORT FOR MEDICAL, LEGAL, AND ESSENTIAL NEEDS. OVERALL, THE PROGRAM DEMONSTRATES HOW COMMUNITY-CENTERED, ART-DRIVEN INITIATIVES CAN STRENGTHEN CONNECTION, RESILIENCE, AND OPPORTUNITY.
  3. $10,690 spent. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT CONTINUES TO FUND THE WORK OF A CREATIVE IN SAN JOSE, CA WHO DIRECTS AND ENGAGES OUTSIDE ARTISTS FOR IN-PERSON & VIRTUAL COMMUNITY EVENTS AT SEVERAL AFFORDABLE APARTMENT PROPERTIES IN THE CITY. AMONG THE MONTHLY EVENTS SHE CURATED IN 2025 WAS A SIX MONTH LONG COMMUNITY EVENT WHERE A RESIDENT ARTIST WORKED WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY TO BUILD HEALTHY EATING HABITS FOR RESIDENTS AND PROVIDED FRESH STAPLES ON A WEEKLY BASIS. RESIDENTS WERE PROVIDED A RECIPE BOOK WITH SIMPLE, HEALTHY WAYS TO PREPARE MEALS. ANOTHER PROJECT INVOLVED RESIDENTS HAVING ACCESS TO MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS IN THE LOCAL GALLERY, PRIMARILY A PIANO. THE ARTIST CREATED SPACE FOR PEOPLE TO HAVE FUN AND "PLAY AND BE CURIOUS" WITH MUSIC.
