Financial health
We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance
This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Programs described in its return (1)
- $110,519 spent. GateWay Boarding Academy [GBA] continues to work diligently to maintain a cadre of volunteers and to identify potential staff members in order to maximize continued program growth while balancing program cost increases. This year we strengthened our instructional effectiveness by attracting and hiring a retired teacher/media specialist with a heart to serve youth, and years of experience meeting the instructional needs of a similar student body. Additionally, GBA continued to vet all its staff and volunteers through an extensive background HR Screening process, and Youth Protection & Reporting training. Also, this year, our After-School, Structured Instructional Support Time [A.S.S.I.S.T] program continued to use HMHs [Houghton/ Mifflin/Harcourt] READ 180 and MATH 180 programs. This program combines the effectiveness of proven research-based computer reinforced curriculum with learning style specific, individualized instruction in a culture of acceptance, despite any academic or problem-solving challenges. Our students continue to benefit from the consistent, collaborative, and caring approach of our professional staff and volunteers serving at GBA and we continue to accomplish our mission by serving, in-person, a population which includes Middle and High-school students initially performing at least 2-3 years below grade level in reading/English and/or math, including those who have an active I.E.P. [qualified as Special Education]. We also continue to serve students referred to us through the foster care system, often with multiple changes in their living environments. We continue to intensify recruitment of Middle School students thereby giving the greatest amount of time for students to achieve grade level performance. Programmatically, GBA provided over 30 weeks of math, and of Reading/English remedial instruction with class sizes of 4 or less, in the A.S.S.I.S.T program. In addition to teacher-led assessments, initial and subsequent periodic assessment is used to verify academic growth through the NWEA national instructional assessment system. Board committees continue to work with staff to actively manage the three major GBA programs despite increased costs particularly of the Young Mens Adventure summer camp experience, while seeking a less expensive alternative that incorporates the programs core values: temperance, deferred gratification, accountability, respect, integrity, endurance, empathy, community service and commitment to excellence. This year, however, despite the cost, we continued the camp experience designed to strengthen students in those core values. Finally, beyond the needed academic support, in 2025 GateWay continued to engage business owners from the local community, certified in their respective vocations to provide experiences that reinforced the real-world relevance of academics through the summer, Earn and Learn Pre-Apprentice Program. Areas this year included: electrician, culinary arts, construction and woodworking. We were most excited to have one of our previous students- now a college sophomore- return as an intern to assist the current students in their endeavors to learn a trade that applies the reading and math that they continue to learn in the classroom.
