Programs described in its return (3)
  1. $250,000 spent. New Alpha CDC continued advancing development of the 305-acre property formerly known as Woodbury Plantation, now renamed Freedom Land. To guide this effort, the organization convened an interdisciplinary design team that includes scientists and experts from the Union of Concerned Scientists, Francis Marion University, South Carolina State University, and Clemson University, along with specialists in forestry, landscaping, and urban and rural planning. Through this collaborative effort, the organization completed a land use plan for the property, designating 20.3 acres for infrastructure development. Plans include the construction of an eco-lodge designed to accommodate up to 32 individuals, featuring a commercial kitchen, dining facility, and supportive program space. Progress to date includes clearing roadways, installing signage, repairing the property gate, and initiating plats and construction blueprints for the development area. The organization also sustained its environmental education programming at the EJ Training Center, while building strategic partnerships with the South Carolina Wildlife Federation and the National Wildlife Federation to expand long-term funding opportunities. Additionally, upgraded Wi-Fi infrastructure now enables the delivery of virtual and hybrid training programs, increasing accessibility and reach.
  2. $140,000 spent. In parallel with site development, New Alpha CDC expanded its food access and agricultural support initiatives across Marlboro, Darlington, Florence, Marion, and Beaufort counties. The organization continued its farm-to-table distribution efforts, providing fresh produce to residents while strengthening local food systems. Support for farmers included assistance with market development and the installation of solar-powered electric fencing to protect livestock. We also continued advancing our work around EV charging infrastructure and made the strategic decision to move forward with strengthening our partnerships with farmers. This includes the continued development of the Imani Market-our online produce marketplace that allows individuals to order fresh food crops directly from local farmers, increasing access to healthy food while supporting local agriculture. In addition, we launched a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week podcast radio station called 3BC Radio. The station features a mix of old-school music, R&B, gospel, and Christian programming. It also broadcasts worship services from Kingdom Living Temple, along with talk shows, advertisements from local businesses, and announcements of upcoming community events
  3. $59,929 spent. While we initially explored a workforce and business development initiative focused on EV installation, we shifted that effort toward financial empowerment. We partnered with Optus Bank to implement a series of financial literacy sessions scheduled for 2026. These sessions will serve multiple age groups: elementary students in March, middle school students in June, high school students in September, and college students and adults in November. We also participated in Climate Week NYC, where six representatives from South Carolina engaged in national and global climate discussions. During that time, we hosted and participated in several events, including gatherings at the Church Center for the United Nations, 475 Riverside Drive, a Buddhist temple in Manhattan, and a community event with churches in St. Albans, Queens. On the environmental health front, we provided PurpleAir quality monitors and air purifiers to 10 childcare facilities in Florence County, South Carolina. Along with the equipment, we delivered training on improving indoor air quality and supported these centers in becoming certified as eco-friendly childcare facilities. This included guidance on safer air fresheners and reducing exposure to harmful substances such as PFAS and microplastics. Each facility also received $1,000 to support supplies, equipment, or facility improvements. Additionally, we distributed emergency preparedness kits, or "go bags," to 30 families in Britton's Neck, South Carolina, strengthening community resilience in the face of climate-related emergencies.
