Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Programs described in its return (1)
  1. $51,323 spent. Juneau Makerspace provides space, tools, and equipment to the community of Juneau to promote creativity, education, exploration, and innovation. Our three main functions are providing tools and equipment to our members, serving as a rental facility for community events, and bringing the spirit of making into the community through booth events. Over the past year, we have upgraded our facility and acquired new tools for our members. We have a woodshop, ceramics studio, craft room, electronics lab, and other areas for making. We've upgraded to new woodshop equipment, including purchasing a new CNC router, and have had other equipment donated, such as a glass kiln. We renovated our craft room to allow for better access and more projects. By providing this equipment, we serve a wide variety of artists, hobbiests, and even small businesses. Next, as a rental facility, we have hosted a variety of classes, workshops, parties, meetings, and other community events. Other local groups, such as scout troops, neighborhood associations, and even an avalanche safety class, have been able to meet and function thanks to our volunteers who maintain the Makerspace. Finally, we have run booths at other local events to promote making, such as at the local Renaissance Faire. We have had hundreds of members over the years, usually between 50 to 60 at any given time, we host multiple events weekly that see hundreds of people from our community come through our door, and we do outreach at our booths at local events attended by hundreds of people.
