- $80,091 spent. Heartwood Educational Collaborative is the nonprofit fundraising foundation associated with the Heartwood Charter School Bothin Program in Fairfax, CA that works toward supporting nature and Waldorf-based educational initiatives for TK-8th grade students. By organizing family donations, throwing fundraising events, and partnering with local businesses, HEC provides funds that can be used to offset rental costs for the unique Bothin campus, support school-wide festivals, enrich school materials, make educational trips accessible to all students regardless of ability to pay, and continue to make Heartwood Charter School a special place for students seeking an alternative education in the public realm. In 2019 the program applied for a separate charter authorization with Liberty School District and that charter was approved. Heartwood Charter School was created as an independent public charter school in Sonoma and Marin counties. In 2020, Heartwood Educational Collaborative worked closely with the new charter school to provide support for families and students as well as the charter school itself through grants for teachers and classes not funded under the new charter school, offsetting rental costs and offering parenting education programs. In 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 Heartwood Educational Collaborative focused its support through grants to the Waldorf program of Heartwood Charter School, benefitting the development of the program for all students and families.
