Blackberry Creek Farm Animal Sanctuary
Public records show a registered, tax-exempt organization in good standing.
What it says it does
The organization's primary purpose is to provide rescue services, medical care, and permanent sanctuary to animals rescued from abuse, neglect, abandonment, and the slaughter pipeline and to offer public education and advocacy on their behalf. We offer a home to animals not accepted at traditional animal shelters and make sure their needs are met for the remainder of their natural lives including nutritious food, safe shelters, warm bedding, enrichment, socialization, and a peaceful habitat. We educate humans about the impacts of a plant-based diet to help not only the animals, but to reduce climate change, increase food security among vulnerable populations, increase biodiversity, and improve human health. We offer leadership programs for teenagers, volunteer programs for individuals with disabilities, and of course, the chance for humans and non humans to connect in a healing environment.

Governance
This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence
Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.
Programs described in its return (3)
- $6,483 spent. Education and Community Involvement: The education program services we offer are instrumental in solving the larger problem that our first program (animal rescue and care) addresses. Having both the animal care and education programs in in tandem is more impactful than just one or the other. Our educational program services include the service/volunteerism opportunities for the community, field trips, extracurricular visits for groups and clubs (ex: Girl Scouts), online education offerings, public visitor days, private tours, a special needs adult program, and more.
- $60,995 spent. Animal Rescue and Care: The sanctuary's primary program is to provide services for animals in need including but not limited to: rescue, transportation, medical care, and permanent sanctuary including meeting all of their needs (food, bedding, housing/infrastructure, veterinary care, enrichment, behavioral and physical challenges, medication, safety and daily care) for the entire duration of their natural lives. This makes up the bulk of our program expenses as it includes everything related to the care of our permanent animal residents as well as foster care and placement referral services for animals in need.
- $2,534 spent. Advocacy and Outreach: Our advocacy and outreach programs supplement the humane education part of our work. We give free plant-based starter kits to visitors to help them transition to a healthier lifestyle, use social media and literature to advocate for animals, are interviewed on podcasts, online blogs, and digital magazines, and collaborate with veterinarians, other non profits, and other sanctuaries across the US and Canada to break down the barriers of speciesism and promote equitable care for, and treatment of, all animals.
