What it says it does

Ballyhoo Theatre's purpose is to enrich, educate and entertain our community by providing a superior theatre experience, to provide education in the theatre arts to children and young adults, and to create a safe and inclusive environment. Ballyhoo Theatre is a queer led organization that serves the LGBTQIA2S+ and Ally community. As part of our production season, we are committed to including diverse queer stories, stories with queer characters, as well as telling traditional stories through a queer lens. We are a space that celebrates and welcomes everyone; queer folks, their allies, and individuals who are searching for a community-based environment to grow and learn in.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (4)
  1. $25,000 spent. ArtsFund Grant (unspecified) - Funding for a free-to-the-public performance of the children's musical "Seussical TYA" which reached approximately 1,800 audience members, and included a performance for a Title 1 school. People served: over 1,800. We were able to use the remaining grant amount for operating expenses and rentals for other programs, including our educational programs.
  2. $5,000 spent. We were able to scholarship many students for educational theatre projects this year using grant funding. This grant, from the Hazel Miller Foundation, funded 12 of those students, many from underserved communities including BIPOC students, neurodivergent students and students from the LGBTQIA2S+ communities.
  3. $25,000 spent. Private donation - This donation was used to cover general operating expenses that allow us to produce quality children's educational theatre and mainstage performances.
  4. $14,920 spent. Private donations from several individuals, used for operating expenses.
