Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (3)
  1. $35,914 spent. Contests: We offer 6 monthly math contests for grades 1-12 as part of our MathRocks! series, plus a similarly formatted State of Nevada Championship. Additionally, we are an official testing site for multiple national math contests and provide area students with the opportunity to participate in them. Our participants attend public, private, Title I, and charter schools as well as a handful who are homeschooled. More than 50% of our participants are minorities and nearly 40% of our participants are female. Additionally, we brought in career speakers to each contest to talk about their career and how math is a part of it. As a result we saw a significant increase in the number of students interested in various math careers. More information and data breakdown is available in our annual report that can be seen on our website, https://NevadaMath.org
  2. $26,815 spent. Instruction includes camps and classes: We hold four week-long in-person math camps each summer. Camps are typically for students entering grades 3-7 and cover a variety of math topics. Camp sizes range from 6 to 18 students, depending on the week. Classes were held for students who wanted additional math enrichment and/or preparations for upcoming contests. Family Math Nights were hosted by 13 Washoe County School District schools, contracted through Parent University who covered the fees for the school and provided translators as requested. Math Club in a Bag is a kit designed for 3rd grade after-school math clubs. This program was implemented and later sold in this fiscal year.
  3. $18,808 spent. Competition Team: This program is for students in grades 7-12 who live in the Reno/Sparks area who want to participate as part of a team working to solve incredibly challenging math problems. Students practice on most Sunday afternoons throughout the school year and compete in the American Regions Mathematics League in May.
