What it says it does

We are establishing a K-8 model school for 1000 children a community center vegetable gardens and a farm in an economically disadvantaged area of Ethiopia. All structures are community-built with support from Engineers and Architects Without Borders. As part of our educational initiative: 1. We installed composting toilets to recycle waste into nutrient rich soil. 2. Established a Bamboo Propagation Nursery to train young farmers in cultivating this versatile crop for construction furniture and biofuel also serving as a food source. 3. Our Apple Orchards demonstrate planting techniques for this nutritious fruit not yet grown commercially in our region. Additionally we sponsor teacher training and launched the only Ethiopian STEM program for grades 1-12 in public school to enhance the educational experience.

Financial health

We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (3)
  1. $56,513 spent. School construction is a primary commitment building classrooms to host grades K-8 in a safe and enriching environment and to host after-school micro business and educational experiences and skills training in the finished classrooms for 1000 children. We support and maintain the school buildings as we complete them until we transfer ownership to the Ethiopian Education Ministry. We are building micro businesses to use the shelter of the classrooms.
  2. $7,454 spent. Our model Saturday STEM program for 285 children including all grades is the first in Ethiopia in an elementary school. It is so popular we added high school classes and invited the children from the Beta Israel community who are now bussed across the city to join. We employ local university faculty to teach linking our disadvantaged students with the university knowledge base. We host 3 days a week STEM classes in the summer which is the only free educational offering in the city for elementary children,
  3. $7,243 spent. Our agricultural research successes are expanding the crops previously grown in the region increasing the economic and nutritional benefits to the community. We have proven bamboo apple and enset false banana a highly nutritional tuber thrive in our area and we are sharing the agricultural techniques with local farmers increasing the crop varieties grown in the region. We added 2000 sq.meters of vegetable farming to feed hungry people displaced to our area.
