Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (2)
  1. $5.4 million spent. ADULT PALLIATIVE CARE: PALLIATIVE CARE IS PROVIDED BY A TEAM OF SPECIALISTS WHO WORK TOGETHER WITH THE PATIENT'S OTHER HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS TO OFFER AN EXTRA LAYER OF SUPPORT. THE PATIENTS WE SEE MOST OFTEN HAVE MULTIPLE CHRONIC CONDITIONS SUCH AS COPD, CHF, DEMENTIA, CANCER, DIABETES, NEUROLOGIC CONDITIONS (MS, ALS, POST-STROKE) AND MORE. WE WORK TO HELP DEFINE PERSONAL GOALS AND NEEDS TO CREATE AN INDIVIDUALIZED CARE PLAN TO HELP IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THE PATIENT AND THEIR FAMILY, AND TO HELP THEM TO UNDERSTAND THEIR TREATMENTS AND CHOICES. THE PALLIATIVE CARE TEAMS MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS TO LESSEN THE EFFECTS OF SYMPTOMS SUCH AS PAIN, SHORTNESS OF BREATHE, FATIGUE, CONSTIPATION, NAUESEA, LOSS OF APPETITE, AND DIFFICULTY SLEEPING. PALLIATIVE CARE MAY INCLUDE SPECIALTY VISITS BY A NURSE PRACTITIONER OR PHYSICIAN IN ADDITION TO OTHER INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAM SPECIALISTS LIKE SOCIAL WORKERS, NURSES, CNA'S, CHAPLAINS AND GRIEF COUNSELORS. PATIENTS RECEIVING PALLIATIVE CARE DO NOT HAVE TO DISCONTINUE CURATIVE TREATMENT FOR THEIR ILLNESSES. IN 2023, WE SERVED 2,519 PATIENTS IN OUR ADULT PALLIATIVE CARE PROGRAM.
  2. $1.1 million spent. KORAGEOUS KIDS: HOSPARUS STARTED THE NATION'S FIRST PEDIATRIC PROGRAM IN 1980 AND HAS PROVIDED CARE FOR MORE THAN 1,560 CHILDREN SINCE ITS INCEPTION. HOSPARUS HEALTH'S KOURAGEOUS KIDS PROGRAM CARES FOR TERMINALLY ILL CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES, REGARDLESS OF THEIR FAMILY'S ABILITY TO PAY. CHILDRENS HOSPICE CARE IS A CONCEPT AND DELIVERY SYSTEM OF CARE THAT BRINGS TOGETHER PHYSICIANS, NURSES, SOCIAL WORKERS, CHAPLAINS, THERAPISTS, TEACHERS, AND VOLUNTEERS AS A TEAM. THIS SYSTEM PROVIDES COMPREHENSIVE CARE FOR CHILDREN WITH LIFE-THREATENING CONDITIONS SO THEY AND THEIR FAMILIES MAY CONTINUE TO SPEND THE REST OF THEIR DAYS WITH THE BEST QUALITY OF LIFE POSSIBLE. THE TOTAL ESTIMATED VALUE OF CHARITY CARE HOSPARUS PROVIDED FOR KOURAGEOUS KIDS WAS MORE THAN $9,201. THE EXPENSE IS A COST ESTIMATE BASED ON THE ORGANIZATION WIDE COST TO CHARGE RATIO FOR CHARITY CARE. HOSPARUS DOES NOT PURSUE COLLECTION OF AMOUNTS DETERMINED TO QUALIFY AS CHARITY CARE AND THOSE AMOUNTS ARE EXCLUDED FROM NET PATIENT SERVICE REVENUE. HOSPARUS HEALTH SERVICED 161 KKIDS PALLIATIVE CARE PATIENTS IN 2023.
