Financial health

We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (3)
  1. $2,348 spent. Through the Heart's current activity focuses heavily on its Comfort Kit program. Kits are provided free of charge to individuals or couples who have recently suffered a pregnancy loss and are delivered directly or via USPS Priority Mail. Each kit comes full of pampering and distracting items including personal care items, journal and pen, candy, tea, and tissues, an angel wind chime, and more. Information about the organization and a handwritten note are also included to ensure each recipient understands they are not alone. The program began in November 2013 and to date, more than 4,000 kits have been distributed to all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Approximately 400 individuals/couples are served each year through this program.
  2. $1,559 spent. The Wandering Angel Project is a program offered by Through the Heart to honor all of the babies lost during pregnancy or shortly after birth as well as any other loved ones gone too soon. The goal is to spread positivity in their memory through an angel that brings love, strength, peace, and protection. Angels can be kept by the person who finds it or passed on to someone else. The WAP was launched on June 24, 2023 and so far, more than 4,000 angels have been shared.
  3. $252 spent. We have limited quantities of the book Dear Star Baby by Malcolm Newsome available as an additional resource. This book is written from the point of view of a young child to his unborn sibling and shares how he processes the grief he and his family experience after a miscarriage. It is an excellent resource for families who have a child (or children) at home who are also going through the loss.
