Financial health

We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (1)
  1. $1,895 spent. The Bergen County American Legion (BCAL) is the intermediate body between the local 39 Bergen County Posts and the American Legion Department of NJ. BCAL has assisted as a Laison between the two, for the purpose of promoting American Legion programs, including veterans' rehabilitation, children & youth activities, Americanism and patriotic programs, community outreach, as well as serving its 2715 members (2025membership year) within Bergen County. While BCAL has some supervisory power over local posts in Bergen County, our primary purpose is to promote, stimulate, and coordinate American Legion programs so the posts' work is made more efficient.
