Programs described in its return (1)
  1. $417,067 spent. MIYAMOTO RELIEF PROVIDED NONPROFIT ENGINEERING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE IN DISASTER- AND CONFLICT-AFFECTED AREAS THROUGHOUT 2024.MOST NOTABLY, MIYAMOTO RELIEF PARTNERED WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY TO IMPLEMENT A LARGE-SCALE EMERGENCY HOUSE REPAIR PROGRAM IN TRKIYE FOLLOWING THE DEVASTATING EARTHQUAKE. THROUGH AN EXTENSIVE BENEFICIARY MAPPING AND SELECTION PROCESS, VULNERABLE HOUSEHOLDS - PARTICULARLY ELDERLY RESIDENTS - WERE IDENTIFIED AND PRIORITIZED FOR SUPPORT. MIYAMOTO RELIEF TEAMS CARRIED OUT DETAILED DAMAGE AND REPAIR ASSESSMENTS, PREPARED BILLS OF QUANTITIES (BOQS), AND OVERSAW THE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS.AS A RESULT, EARTHQUAKE-DAMAGED HOMES DEEMED REPAIRABLE WERE MADE SAFE AND HABITABLE AGAIN, ALLOWING FAMILIES TO MOVE OUT OF INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS (IDP) CAMPS AND OTHER TEMPORARY SHELTERS AND RETURN TO THEIR OWN HOMES.MIYAMOTO RELIEF ALSO COMPLETED TWO CRITICAL PROJECTS IN UKRAINE IN 2024: THE REPAIR AND RENOVATION OF A BOMB-DAMAGED SCHOOL IN KYIV AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF NATIONAL ASBESTOS-SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR DEMOLITION.THE SCHOOL REPAIR PROJECT, CARRIED OUT AT SCHOOL NO. 165, WAS FUNDED BY MULTIPLE DONORS AND SPONSORS, INCLUDING CITIBANK AND PROCEEDS FROM MIYAMOTO RELIEF'S INNOVATIVE "NIGHT OF 1,000 DRAWINGS" FUNDRAISER. THE WORK INCLUDED THE SAFE DEMOLITION OF ASBESTOS-DAMAGED WALLS AND OTHER COMPROMISED BUILDING ELEMENTS, FOLLOWED BY RECONSTRUCTION AND A FULL RENOVATION OF THIS MULTI-STORY HISTORIC SCHOOL. A MAJOR IMPROVEMENT WAS THE INSTALLATION OF NEW BATHROOMS IN THE BASEMENT, WHICH ALSO SERVES AS THE SCHOOL'S BOMB SHELTER. PREVIOUSLY, THERE WERE NO TOILET FACILITIES IN THE BASEMENT, FORCING STUDENTS TO HOLD OR CLIMB UPSTAIRS DURING AIR RAIDS, PUTTING CHILDREN AT SIGNIFICANT RISK.THE SECOND PROJECT, FUNDED BY THE CENTER FOR DISASTER PHILANTHROPY (CDP), FOCUSED ON ADDRESSING UKRAINE'S WIDESPREAD ASBESTOS-CONTAMINATION CHALLENGES. MIYAMOTO RELIEF CONDUCTED MATERIAL TESTING TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT OF ASBESTOS HAZARDS IN DAMAGED STRUCTURES AND DEBRIS, AND DEVELOPED COMPREHENSIVE, PRACTICAL GUIDELINES FOR THE SAFE DEMOLITION OF ASBESTOS-CONTAINING BUILDINGS. THE WORK, CARRIED OUT IN CLOSE COLLABORATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT, RESULTED IN EASY-TO-FOLLOW STEP-BY-STEP GUIDANCE, TRAINING MATERIALS, AND EXTENSIVE STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT. TRAININGS WERE ALSO DELIVERED THROUGH HIGHER-EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS TO BUILD LONG-TERM CAPACITY.MIYAMOTO RELIEF'S WORK DIRECTLY BENEFITS VULNERABLE COMMUNITIES IN DISASTER-HIT AND CONFLICT-AFFECTED AREAS AROUND THE WORLD. IN TRKIYE, THE MOST AT-RISK HOUSEHOLDS WERE PRIORITIZED FOR EMERGENCY HOME REPAIRS, ENABLING FAMILIES, ESPECIALLY THE ELDERLY, TO RETURN SAFELY TO THEIR HOMES. IN UKRAINE, MORE THAN A HUNDRED CHILDREN AT SCHOOL NO. 165 BENEFITED FROM CRITICAL REPAIRS AND SAFETY UPGRADES, INCLUDING THE CREATION OF SAFE SHELTER-LEVEL SANITATION FACILITIES. THE NATIONWIDE ASBESTOS-SAFETY GUIDELINES HAD AN EVEN BROADER IMPACT, ADDRESSING WIDESPREAD CONTAMINATION AND SUPPORTING SAFER DEMOLITION PRACTICES FOR COMMUNITIES ACROSS UKRAINE AFFECTED BY THE WAR.THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THREE CRITICAL PROGRAMS: 1. A LARGE-SCALE EMERGENCY HOME REPAIR PROGRAM IN EARTHQUAKE-AFFECTED TURKEY; 2. THE REPAIR AND REHABILITATION OF SCHOOL NO. 165 IN KYIV, UKRAINE, AND 3. UKRAINIAN NATIONAL ASBESTOS-SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR DEMOLITION.THE ORGANIZATION CONTINUED ITS CRITICAL WORK TO ENSURE SAFE SCHOOLS AND SUPPORT DISASTER-AFFECTED FAMILIES. BUILDING ON PRIOR SCHOOL-SAFETY INITIATIVES IN LEBANON AND OTHER COUNTRIES, MIYAMOTO RELIEF ADVANCED ITS SAFE-SCHOOL PROGRAMMING AND ENABLED FAMILIES TO RETURN HOME THROUGH TARGETED HOME-REPAIR INTERVENTIONS. ADDITIONALLY, BY DEVELOPING NATIONAL ASBESTOS-REMOVAL GUIDELINES IN UKRAINE, MIYAMOTO RELIEF APPLIED ITS TECHNICAL EXPERTISE TO ADDRESS A REAL, LIFE-THREATENING CHALLENGE FACING WAR-AFFECTED COMMUNITIES.
