Programs described in its return (4)
- $2.3 million spent. Supportive Housing: The goal of the Supportive Housing Program is to help formerly unhoused families stabilize and reunify in safe housing with wraparound supports. Our campus provides 68 fully furnished apartments within a tight-knit community an 86% increase in housing capacity in 2025 as we opened 32 newly constructed units at our 28th and Tracy Campus. Moms often reunify with their children within 60 days of coming to Amethyst Place. They have access to a multitude of on-site services, including therapy, case management and court advocacy, a household pantry, mobile medical/dental services, and evening programming to support life skill development and recovery. The average stay for current families is 21 months. Unlike more short-term transitional housing programs, families remain at Amethyst Place as long as needed to prepare for independent living and achieve personal goals. When they exit our program, they maintain access to all of our services.
- $815,030 spent. Family Empowerment - The goal of the Family Empowerment Program is to help families increase their economic and social mobility through educational, vocational, financial, recovery, and wellness support. We offer two-generational support through our Family Achievement Model (FAM), ensuring all Amethyst Place residents are provided individualized, family-centered care to build successful futures. Each family is assigned to a FAM team consisting of two Family Empowerment Coaches, one with peer support expertise and one with youth expertise. Families meet with their FAM teams individually in a frequency individualized to their needs. FAM teams leverage the power of peer support and lived experience through the work of staff who are previous graduates of Amethyst Place and/or women in recovery from substance use, houselessness, and trauma. Staff with lived experience help families address common pitfalls of early recovery: family reunification, physical health/nutrition, financial management, job history, and educational attainment. Family Empowerment Coaches with youth expertise help coordinate with schools, connect youth to extracurricular activities, support positive parenting practices, and provide referrals to other needed services to support childrens well-being, resilience, and growth. In addition to individual and whole-family support, FAM teams coordinate and deliver weekly Empowerment programming for women, children, and the entire family focused on social emotional learning, workforce development, life skills, parenting, financial literacy, home ownership, wellness, recovery, and a host of other topics. The FAM team also leads Amethyst Place Sisterhood, a graduate aftercare program that has successfully kept graduates engaged when they move out of Amethyst Place.
- $250,138 spent. Therapeutic Support - The goal of the Therapeutic Support Program is to help families heal from past trauma, stabilize mental health, improve parenting skills, and build resilience. Families have access to on-site therapeutic services provided by our therapeutic team. Therapy is an integral component of Amethyst Places healing model. Most adult residents have a substance use disorder with co-occurring mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and/or schizoaffective disorder. Additionally, children often arrive with a host of emotional issues that are a result of separation from their parents and experiencing the chaos of parental substance use, making the need for family therapy essential to improving family functioning and relationships. Each family develops an individualized care plan in concert with the Clinical team and check-in meetings are held at intake, 90 days, and every 6 months after. Meetings are collaborative and led by the client, with structure provided by the 18 Arizona Self-Sufficiency domains to ensure a comprehensive approach. Our clinical team uses a variety of evidence-based therapies and practices to help families better manage their mental health and heal from trauma in individual, family, and group modalities. These include motivational interviewing, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, relapse prevention, intensive case management, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, brain spotting, sand tray therapy, play therapy, and strengthening families.
- Mission Statement: At Amethyst Place, we inspire transformational healing and empower generations of women and children to achieve recovery, reunification, and resilience. We live out our noble cause by: reuniting, stabilizing, and healing previously unhoused mothers and children; removing barriers and individualizing services to promote sustainable recovery and healthy living; and building the capacity of mothers to achieve economic success and overcome generational poverty. In 2024, we served 205 women and children. 95% of children in out-of-home placement reunified with their mom. 96% of moms maintained or re-engaged in their recovery - more than double the national average. 86% of moms were employed, in school, or both, building a pathway out of poverty for their families.
