Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (3)
  1. $23,911 spent. Show-Me Green Schools (SMGS) - the SMGS program supports any Missouri preK-12 school to decrease environmental impact, improve student and staff health, and providing outdoor and nature-based education. MEEA also recognizes schools for their achievements over time. This is a collaborative effort between MEEA and Missouri Gateway Green Building Council and together we supported approximately 130 schools in 2025, impacting more than 42,250 students and staff.
  2. $9,911 spent. Annual Conference - MEEA hosts a statewide conference for environmental educators, which rotates among St. Louis, Columbia / Jefferson City, Springfield, and Kansas City each year. In 2025, 95 environmental educators attended the conference, held at the Runge Nature Center in Jefferson City. 28% of attendees utilized the Pay-What-You-Can ticket option, ranging from payment of 0% to 75% of the ticket price.
  3. $50,509 spent. General program and Support Services - In addition to the pillar programs, MEEA provides professional development and web-based resources for MEEA members and other environmental educators. These services range from online, asynchronous courses ("eeCourses") and in-person workshops, to a newsletter, website and webinars, to mini-grants for MEEA members and stipended projects available to Young Environmental Leaders (YEL) members ages 16-26. In 2025, MEEA's eeCourse catalog expanded to 5 available courses. Three courses were offered in 2025 and were attended by 21 nonformal educators, impacting over 10,500 learners. MEEA's Young Environmental Leader (YEL) membership grew to 30 members in 2025, and MEEA provided 6 of them with resume-building, stipended projects valued at $15/hour. Also in 2025, MEEA, in collaboration with 5 other State Affiliates of the North American Association for Environmental Education, completed and shared findings of an EE "landscape analysis", illuminating barriers and gaps in providing EE in schools and communities in Missouri.
