What it says it does

HIFI MEMPHIS, A COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION, EXISTS TO HOLISTICALLY STRENGTHEN AND ACTIVATE MEMPHIS' DOWNTOWN CORE, SPECIFICALLY IN THE HIFI DISTRICT ALONG THE HISTORIC STEREO ALLEY AND MADISON AVENUE CORRIDORS. IN ADDITION TO DISTRICT MARKETING, EVENTS, ART CURATION AND MAINTENANCE, HIFI MEMPHIS DEVELOPS AND ADMINISTERS HOUSING INFRASTRUCTURE, INCLUDING AFFORDABLE AND WORKFORCE HOUSING PROGRAMS. IT ALSO LEVERAGES DISTRICT MOMENTUM TO STRENGTHEN MID-SOUTH FOOD SYSTEM SECURITY BY POWERING A COMMUNITY-DRIVEN PUBLIC MARKET AND FOOD ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM IN THE HIFI DISTRICT. THROUGH THESE HOUSING, PUBLIC SPACE, AND FOOD SYSTEM SERVICES, HIFI MEMPHIS AIMS TO REACTIVATE AN ARCHITECTURALLY AND HISTORICALLY RICH DISTRICT WITH NEW SOCIAL FABRIC. BY CENTERING THE HIFI DISTRICT ON COMMUNITY VOICES, WE CAN DEMONSTRATE INCLUSIVE URBAN REVITALIZATION WITH CITY-WIDE IMPACTS.

Financial health

We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (2)
  1. THE CORE ACTIVITIES OF HIFI MEMPHIS INCLUDE THE DEVELOPMENT - AND EVENTUAL MANAGEMENT - OF A PUBLIC MARKET THAT WILL INCREASE ACCESS TO HEALTHY LOCAL FOODS, CREATE PATHWAYS FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP AMONGST UNDERSERVED GROUPS, AND GENERATE A VIBRANT PUBLIC SPACE FOR DOWNTOWN CIVIC ENGAGEMENT. THIS WILL BE ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH DAILY MARKET OPERATIONS, FOOD ACCESS PROGRAMMING, A FOOD ENTREPRENEURSHIP INCUBATOR, AND COMMUNITY EVENT CURATION AT THE MARKET.
  2. HIFI MEMPHIS IS STRIVING FOR THE PURSUIT OF HEALTHY AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN THE HIFI DISTRICT THROUGH THE STUDY OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING FEASIBILITY AND ADVANCEMENT OF NEW AFFORDABLE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT.
