What it says it does

To advance public appreciation of live music and provide free or low-cost musical performances and education to the community by organizing and presenting community band concerts. Concerts are given at publicly-available municipal events, houses of worship, senior centers and to other nonprofits for their own fundraising initiatives. Participating volunteer musicians of all ages receive musical instruction at rehearsals and other means, and are given an opportunity to advance their skills playing a wide variety of instruments. We plan to incorporate more high school students into our ensemble and play in more community-centered venues in the coming year.

Financial health

We do not score finances when yearly spending is very small or the return has too little detail. The ratios stop meaning much at that size.

Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (1)
  1. $339 spent. We hosted 8 free live concerts with 25-30 volunteer musicians from high school to retiree age performing in front of a total audience of 900 guests. One concert was donated to a different 501(c)(3) providing live music for their own fundraising event. 3 holiday concerts in December included music from varying religious traditions ensuring a breadth of audience appreciation and vocal participation. Concerts were also given at assisted living facilities. Audiences were polled for type of music they prefer and results incorporated into music selections. Our musicians had an opportunity to try out another instrument to enhance their musical education and enrichment. Our 2-hour per week rehearsals were attended by our own musicians and additional volunteer musicians from other community bands to broadly share our repertoire and elevate their music education. Outside conductors - both volunteer and non-volunteer - had an opportunity to conduct our band, giving our musicians experience with other styles of conducting.
