Governance

This organization files the short tax form, which does not ask about boards, policies or audits. That is normal for a small charity and is not a mark against it.

Impact evidence

Describes programs. Its tax return describes what it does but we have found no measurable results in it.

Programs described in its return (3)
  1. $11,000 spent. BRWC partnered with Blackstone River Coalition to receive multi-year support from the The Conservation Law Foundation (CLF). The CLF funds derive from a November 2023 court settlement and are to be expended on projects to cleanup and protect the Blackstone River. BRWC used these funds to initiate a multi-year project to clear invasive species and litter from a disused river-side "linear" public park along the Pawtucket border with Massachusetts.
  2. $10,000 spent. BRWC received a grant from the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program for community engagement and educational events, including activities celebrating the spring fish migration, publication of the Blackstone River paddle guide and an event celebrating Nipmuc culture (Mishoon burn and tribal drummers). $10,000 grant received across 2024/25 and fully expensed in 2025.
  3. $8,350 spent. BRWC received a multi-year grant from the National Park Service Junior Ranger Fishing Program to promote recreational use of the Blackstone River by sponsoring youth groups from Watershed communities to learn how to fish. Hundreds of children from northern Rhode Island learned the joys of fishing for the first time though this program.
