Programs described in its return (2)
- $83,687 spent. Rehabilitation: Soarin' Hawk rescued and treated 209 raptors and 16 different species. We continue to expand the veterinary capabilities of our new facility, with state-of-the-art medical diagnostic equipment, and the latest training from The Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota and the Carolina Raptor Center, whom are the leading raptor centers in North America. See Schedule O for further information. Recently, we have begun engaging with environmental groups in the outlying counties of northern Indiana to increase our pool of rescuers that we can dispatch to these distant but important habitats. Also, in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act, we now are licensed/regulated by the USDA in addition to the U.S. Fish Wildlife Service and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
- $3,826 spent. Education: Soarin' Hawk makes education presentations at schools, libraries, nature centers, nature groups, eco events, community events, home schooler community and on-site Raptor Adventures. In 2024, we performed over 142 presentations. Attendance was over 14,000 K-12 children, adolescents and adults. We traveled to over 45 cities/towns in northern Indiana. See Schedule O for further information. We have 25 resident raptors. While most are sourced from our rescue operation (non-releasable after treatment due inability to hunt), several are captive bred which allows us to share migratory and non-native species in our education programs. As we go forward, we will continue to secure captive bred birds, as they tolerate the stress of being around people better than rescues. In addition, our site in Huntertown Indiana includes a diverse native pollinator prairie and we are working on establishing a native wetland. Funding, in part, was provided for the restoration of these native habitats by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
