- The APS Type 1 Foundation's community is approximately 200 in North America and counting. There are many undiagnosed APS Type 1 patients throughout the United States and worldwide. The Foundations has assisted in decreasing the time to diagnosis; on average, it was 7-10 years when we started, and it can now take 4-5 years. The Foundation's accomplishments for 2024 include Education: This July, The APS Type 1 Foundation Inc. held its 6th Biannual International Symposium on APS Type 1 in San Francisco, California. This symposium provides much-needed education, especially for the newly diagnosed patients, their families, physicians, and clinicians worldwide. We are helping to promote best practices and increase research interest throughout the world. Awareness: The Foundation held our second Global Summit in San Francisco in July 2024. This event is for physicians and research scientists. For this event, the Foundation partnered with the Clinical Immunology Society and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. We are hoping to hold our third in 2026. We continue awareness and education through our website, quarterly newsletters and on social media platforms. Research: The Foundation continues to fund research in APS Type 1, also known as APECED, typically every two years. We continue to run the first-ever Natural History Registry on APS Type 1.
